Yeah I've seen belt-driven motorbikes. Doesn't it stretch? Is it some special hi-tensile carbon fibre impregnated kevlar rubber?

AH, i wanted to post the spot belt drive. i did some work for gates (maker of the belts used) this summer and kept trying to find a way to find someone who could hook me up with a proto bike. i want a belt drive w/ internal 8 hub it would be bliss.

ha i looked at it and went 'those lugs are IMPOSSIBLE' and sure enough, the frame is not lugged, they are 'decorative laminations.' cant get with that particular feature, but its an interesting frame.

i just want a solid bike that i can take for long rides in town/on trails. i've never ridden fixed gear but it appeals to me, i was never much for adjusting my gears anyway. also it can't have those stupid drop handlebars.

I am not sure how they're measured but 19 inches is a LOT less than 60cm. How tall are you? The first bike is for like 6'2" or so.

Going back to Condors for a sec - what do people in the know really think of them? Are they genuinely great bikes? Or style over substance? Are there any obvious downsides?

It depends on the bike and it depends on your inseam, but maybe 54.

The general consensus about Bikedirect bikes is that the frames are nice and the components are decent. It's definetely a good deal. The Kilo TT is also much beloved, and the Hour is actually the same frame as the Fuji Track (http://fujibikes.com/2008/bikes.asp?id=418) and the Kilo TT apparently has the same frame as a KHS Flite (http://www.khsbicycles.com/05_flite_100_08.htm) and a nice fork. All of these bikes are made at the same factory in Taiwan.

Actually the KHS Flite and the Kilo TT have different geometries, so it must be the same frame as an older model Flite

I think Condor is pretty good really. I've test ridden a few and their frames are really well put together. Possibly they are a bit over priced (the style factor and the central london store probably account for some of that). I'm probably not the best judge though.

100% agree with you, when I first saw the bike the Meilenstein was uppermost and I was wondering who made these wheels with such cool graphics, then I saw the crappy Lightweight decals and they are an instant turnoff.

I really like that it is a seat mast, it makes the top tube/seat tube lug really nice

yeah my objection is not the visual aesthetic, that seattube 'lug' is nice.

i do think the aesthetic of a 1 1/8 stem clamp over a 44mm headtube continues to be bad.

Definitely agree on that one, I'm not sure tapering the tube would make it much better.

I'm also not entirely sure what the whole tapered steerer thing is supposed to achieve, test theres a bigger crown race but I've never hear a complaint about the load bearing capacity or longevity of a 1 1/8th inch crown race

I now have a ti bike with a 1" hs, and a carbon cx with a pretty massive 1.5/1.25 hs, and while the dif is apparent in riding I don't think it's due to control or precision issues on the road. Imo. On dirt I like the os headset though. Longevity? My 97 Chris King 1" is flawless still.
