First episode of Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe is up on YouTube - I enjoyed it, especially the contributed sections. Nice to Rab and Ryan from Consolevania, and surprised to see Rebecca Mayes from The Escapist turning up too.

CSI:NY Series 8 Episode 15 was set in the world of competitive video games. one bloke patched the code to make himself a smaller target and increase the size of the others. there was something else about legal highs. anyway, the most startling thing was they showed the code that the bloke had used for the patch:

it's quite obviously just html, printed in a cursive font (why?). did nobody notice? and both sheets are the same...

Everybody knows that real hackers use Comic Sans.

cool. that code doesn't even do anything lol

You don't handwrite code before you type it in?

This, according to Eastenders, was what a videogame looked like in 2010.

I love how Phil Mitchell and his creepy son are playing it as if it's a two-player fighting game, when there's clearly only ever one player character on screen.

pshaw! Only n00bs handwrite their code. Real programmers use punch cards and punch the holes with their teeth.

(i have pages and pages of handwritten z80 assembly... and i'm not alone:

but that's real code, not just random html)

xp Guess I was spoilt by the BBC Basic's built in assembler.

SVU is a hall of famer at hilarious video game depictions, between the hooker-beating GTA rip Tenacity (which totally hooked Fringe's Lincoln Lee) and the MMO obsessed South Korean parents becoming US trailer dwellers addicted to something that looked like a single-screen Dragon's Lair. Oh and that way early episode where Kragan brags to a murderous preteen baout how he made it all the way to level 14 and bagged himself a Gorgon.

I wonder how much of this is going to be new stuff, as opposed to a retread of Gameswipe plus Minecraft plus GTAV.

Seems like the bulk of the programme is going to be a chronological order countdown of twenty influential games.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xAIpVxL3HUhttp://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/nov/29/charlie-brooker-video-game-television

I enjoyed it but it's one of those things where you could spend days arguing about the omissions. talking heads generally good. first time I'd heard Jeff Minter talk. thought the #1 entry was a bit fatuous though

Dead Pixels, the channel 4 (UK) thing has large chunks of people grinding in a mmorpg. last episode had three of them punching a mammoth to death.

there's a whole gamergate episode of SVU. lots of acronyms being explained. and tutuola is a massive gamer, despite never having mentioned it ever before.
