fuckin deal breaker, man.

well i watched this tonight, i liked it.

the dude w/ dick in mouth was no big deal, honestly. i'm surprised they didn't try to get a little more clarity on gg's ambiguous sexuality but i guess maybe counter to the film's "philosophy" and maybe he just couldn't get anything good out of gg on the subject?

also the people in the hometown were pretty hilarious. the "high school buddy" who shows up for an interview in a motorcycle jacket and aviators. the guitarist who dropped out of gg's band and comes across like a total moron. and some of them were downright scary, like the creepy high school teacher and the naked drummer.

I watched the movie again with my wife last night, and I can be seen, very briefly, two or three times during the Space at Chase footage: once when they pan the crowd, and once walking out the door immediately after the show, and possibly one more time when GG is running around inside performing. I have no memory of owning the hat I'm wearing, but my wife says she remembers it.

Watched him through the window at O'Cayz in Madison for long enough to see him piss on the window.

so is this internet version of the documentary abridged or something? i didn't see a lot of what they were talking about in that review.

You didn't even post on this particular aspect of the film, pdf. So I'm wondering why you're getting so nervous...

Kevin, I doubt people were so appauled by man-on-man action. The more likely scenaro is that no matter whether one is gay or straight or somewhere in between, the idea of GG's nasty cock in one's mouth is repulsive, as the man was a filthy walking compost heap. And your "blue hair biddies" comment is ageist.

Never saw GG, but it always irritated me how, on talk shows in the '80s at the height of the PMRC nonsense, they'd have GG on--this pathetic, blathering idiot--to represent the side of free speech.

thirdalternative, Saturday, 26 April 2008 15:14 (fifteen years ago) link

>You didn't even post on this particular aspect of the film, pdf.

Because it barely registered with me at the time. You, on the other hand, seem somewhat fixated.

>So I'm wondering why you're getting so nervous...

What's to be nervous about, Mr. Armchair Psychologist? I'm just laughing at your screechy monomania.

unperson, Saturday, 26 April 2008 15:36 (fifteen years ago) link

You diagnose me with monomania and yet you're not an Armchair Psychologist yourself? Okay.

The more likely scenaro is that no matter whether one is gay or straight or somewhere in between, the idea of GG's nasty cock in one's mouth is repulsive,

I'd buy that if the tone of the audience hadn't changed so decidedly. And yeah, the biddies comment was shitty of me.

But get back to the music, maaaaaaan (never mind that the music matters less here than it does with Milli Vanilli).

I had a chance to see him in Chicago. The club was called Exit or The Exit. I even want to say I remember the day - Jan. 5 (forget the year). Sadly, I didn't get to go because I couldn't find anyone to drive me into the city from the burbs in inclement weather (and to go see GG Allin).

But I did take a leak in a bathroom in which Allin reportedly asked a girl to piss in a cup so he could drink it.

saw him at the cat club ca. '87 -- gerard cosloy and j mascis in the band. g.g. ate a lot of ex-lax before the show, hurled poop into the audience. even though i was in the back in a ridiculous jean jacket, i later discovered a splotch of brown stuff on the back of the jacket.

shoulda saved it -- i'm sure gg's poop would fetch a lot on ebay nowadays.

ohh, and the show was okay.

I can't believe I actually have to explain this, but the humor in that scene comes from the fact that the narrator is casually mentioning G.G. having a devoted fanbase, which (as David R. illustrated quite humorously), one might usually take to mean obsessive collectors, or even Beatlemania-style screamers, but in fact is illustrated with a matter-of-fact snapshot of a smiling fan giving a thumbs up while blowing this filthy, gnarly scumbag, who is passed out. One assumes sexuality has nothing at all to do with this scenario (I actually don't recall any point in the film where G.G.'s sexuality is explored at all, but it's been ages since I saw it) - it's just another moment of crusty shock; the gutter punk version of frat house pictures of guys drawing on their passed out friends' faces, maybe.

I have no problem at all with guys blowing each other - I'm all for it.
The scene is OBVIOUSLY played for laughs through the contrast between the narration and the visual. Maybe you could argue against the director's intentions, but not with fucking ME for thinking that it's hilarious.

Savannah Smiles, Sunday, 27 April 2008 01:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually, you DO have to explain. Or rather, ONE has to explain. This portion of the thread started because Stephen called that scene "ridiculous." (And actually, what exactly was ridiculous is unclear. Was it the scene or the comment about the scene?) That's it - just "ridiculous" which can mean MANY things.

Yes, of course, I get the humor of the scene (and David R.'s illustration). I think it's funny too. So more power to ya for being all for guys blowing each other and thinking that the scene is hilarious. I applaud both realities. Seriously.

But yet again (gee Phil, guess my monomania was justified after all), in a sold out auditorium of people watching that scene, not a single person laughed even though they had been laughing at everything else up until that point. The scene is indeed obviously played for laughs. And yet...

So one might assume "sexuality has nothing at all to do with this scenario" (not me, though). But it sure had everything to do with that particular response. And ALL I was trying to do was figure out if that "ridiculous" comment was a species of same.

I saw GG in Detroit and I fled to the back of the room just like everyone else when the poo started to fly.

libcrypt, Sunday, 27 April 2008 03:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I think I escaped poo-free, but who knows? Geeg also tossed a bunch of hardware around, which was quite a bit more frightening.

libcrypt, Sunday, 27 April 2008 03:06 (fifteen years ago) link

The funniest part about the show was that some guy with a fro came out before GG and sang 2 or 3 punkish songs to many boos before he fessed up and taunted the audience with "do you REALLY want GG ALLIN???"

I can't believe I'm having to clarify this, either... but by "ridiculous" i obviously meant "ridiculously funny" and Savannah Smiles summed up the inherent humor perfectly a few posts up.

I read about GG on wikipedia today and I'm rather highly ashamed I know more trivia about him than I do about, well, any other random fucking person ever born, as in "I know about 0 facts about some random person from oklahoma" vs "I know a couple of things about GG Allin" = is there a bullet in that gun can I put it in my mouth

El Tomboto, Sunday, 27 April 2008 03:18 (fifteen years ago) link

As bad as I feel about reading his wikipedia page though I can still feel superior to you sad, sad imbeciles with nothing better to do than watch a fucking documentary about this dude

El Tomboto, Sunday, 27 April 2008 03:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Having now watched the documentary on PTV and (browsed) the YouTube clips linked above, I was wondering if anyone could clarify: Did GG ever actually rape anyone onstage, as he claims in the Springer clip? I find this very hard to believe, as it seems violent intervention would have been inevitable before he would have gotten even close to penetration. I would assume he's just full of bluster about the rape thing, but the clips from the doc of him randomly assaulting both men and women have me curious.

also there seem to be stories about him cutting off the tip, though I'm sure you'd be able to tell from pics whether that is true.

another thing: if he was so pissed about that, why would he make sure everyone knew about it?

I'm joking, kids.

I thought it was a good doc but the director's comment at the end, something along the lines, "I'd hoped GG Allin would have died in a more spectacular fashion, on stage suicide taking five fans with him, instead he died like a typical rock star" was enraging. What a FUCKING STUPID thing to say. Yeah, it would have been so much better if he'd taken five people with him. What a load.
