"Honey, I took your advice and went with a classier name. I present to you, Homely Windows!"

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:10 (ten years ago) link

''Wear Art Thou'' is so close to being reasonably clever (I'm assuming the idea is that the clothes are ''art'') but really fumbles on the third word.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 6 June 2013 01:19 (ten years ago) link

"Wear art though" would be the nice aside at the end of some snide conversation.

Wear Art Chow: high concept body art place where everything is edible

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 6 June 2013 01:22 (ten years ago) link

the 'thou' makes sense just fine, just read it as imperative mood

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 6 June 2013 01:47 (ten years ago) link

although it would be better punning if the phrase "where art thou" was actually something, other than half the title of a movie

There's a new-ish Thai restaurant opened in Glasgow called Thai-riffic.

ailsa, Thursday, 6 June 2013 02:16 (ten years ago) link

The words Thai and Pho are total wild cards... anything goes.

i worked (for three days) at a tea place called Infini-T. It would make more sense as Infini-Tea.

I remember earlier this year hearing on the radio "the Met Office have issued a yellow snow warning" and sniggering to myself

sjuttiosju_u (wins), Sunday, 9 June 2013 21:36 (ten years ago) link

I expect the Zappa fans to come out of the woodwork for this one.

pplains, Sunday, 9 June 2013 21:40 (ten years ago) link

i like ones that have a sign with their slogan written just as big as the name of the store so it appears to be one long title:
Zak's ATV Zone We Sell ATVs
DOORS N MORE What's The More? Windows!

This never stops making me giggle either.

Does everyone else in the UK have Virgin TV/broadband installer vans with "hilarious" Van puns on their vans? There's a van belonging to a neighbour with "Van Diesel" on it parked round the corner - have also seen Julie Vandrews and Marlon Vando kicking around the area.

this place been drawing attention to itself for price discrimination. just now noticed its horribly formed name.

two weeks pass...

Not exactly local, but on WNYC they keep mentioning this underwriter called "Mail Chimp" and it always comes across to me as "Male Chimp." Terrible name either way.

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 June 2013 16:13 (ten years ago) link

I thought of this thread today bcz I came up with the name "Backto Realty" which is not a real realtor but if it was it wd belong in this thread.

shohreh aja/danteloo (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:23 (ten years ago) link

MailChimp is a bulk email service, isn't it? Not an underwriter.

Check out this shipping/packaging store: http://www.goinpostalwdm.com/

mh, Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:25 (ten years ago) link

oh wait

never mind, I misread your use of underwriter, carry on

right

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:26 (ten years ago) link

it also sounds to me like it would just kind of scamper up a tree with your mail and comically feign reading it before tossing it away

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:27 (ten years ago) link

but guys, really. "Goin' Postal"

mh, Thursday, 27 June 2013 21:27 (ten years ago) link

Not as funny when the person knowingly makes a "horribly formed name."

Teaffee, Brooklyn. Because they serve tea... and coffee... and tea and coffee together.

Josefa, Saturday, 6 July 2013 22:40 (ten years ago) link

You are mistaken, this business is clearly named "eaffee."

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 6 July 2013 22:58 (ten years ago) link

My brother-in-law used to live in Eugene and we always had to drive by this place to get to his apartment:

It was formerly called Lolita's Child Development Center. But I'm not sure Lolita's World of Wonder is better.

emilys., Monday, 8 July 2013 08:44 (ten years ago) link

Once saw a Chinese restauarant called Bon Appetit

paolo, Monday, 8 July 2013 11:58 (ten years ago) link

Lolita's World of Wonder somehow reminds me of the friend who decided to change her life/career/etc. after passing a shuttered tourist trap with faded sign reading "World of Dreams Museum," and having a vision of her own dreams bottled, labeled, and sitting dusty on the shelf of a defunct roadside attraction.

Isnt that a play on shabby chic? Which I thought was a shitty fad that'd passed in the 90s but what the hey.

what about the fried chicken place called hitler

the late great, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 02:56 (ten years ago) link

omg this pizza place near a friend's holiday house that we ate at like a decade and a half ago and was actually really bad pizza (as in, not bad but still good, not bad but edible, but bad *bad* bad)

Anyway it has since changed it's name and is now called 'Pizza D'oh'

http://www.pizzadoh.com.au/

Yes like in the Simpsons. apparently the sign outside is also in the same (or similar enough) font also.

Why the fuck would you do this? There are no other Simpsons references about it, so all that's left is that "D'oh" sounds like 'dough', and 'Pizza Dough' is a shit name for a pizza place.
