flop fines should be levied immediately, teams should have to go 4 on 5 while the flopper runs to the locker room for his wallet and 5k in cash

"every team flops because it's rewarded" - lebron

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:48 (ten years ago) link

haha yes, very equivalent

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:56 (ten years ago) link

like, chalmers was flopping like a fish last night. it didn't effect the game at all and now we all get to make fun of mario chalmers.

i don't see the problem here

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:57 (ten years ago) link

lebron flops all over the court in game 6 and we get a hilarious vine out of it and the pacers crush the heat, i don't see the big deal

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:58 (ten years ago) link

you can say it's no big deal and the league can also step it's penalties up at the same time. if the only downside is less funny gifs, i can live with that

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:00 (ten years ago) link

you said yourself that it works, so clearly teams that flop more have an advantage. It affects wins and losses.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:01 (ten years ago) link

xp

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:01 (ten years ago) link

what's an example of flopping swinging a game

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:04 (ten years ago) link

i don't know that it affects all that much in the long-run, but it's a part of the game that no one needs or likes and that the league would be perfectly justified in punishing

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:04 (ten years ago) link

i agree with all of that, it's also not one of the 10 most important things that ever happens in any basketball game

how many games are decided by one or two possessions? Countless games are decided by one play.

you said it's "hilarious"

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:07 (ten years ago) link

people making fun of flopping on the internet is usually hilarious, yes

Clippers win by 1

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:10 (ten years ago) link

it also can def swing momentum at a crucial time. Like that PG play could have been a huge swing cos thats 3 points erased and another foul on him and gets the crowd juiced and makes Chalmers and his think they can and SHOULD do it again and again.

why pee on the beat (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:11 (ten years ago) link

that's pretty tin-foil hat to me

to me it's just like, wow what an awesome series that was with so many different story lines and great games that hinged on a hundred strategic decisions and the play of some of the best players in the nba. and we're talking bout flopping, man. flopping.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

practice flopping

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

we're talking about it because it's getting worse and worse

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:23 (ten years ago) link

I dont think anyone is bagging on the series, it WAS a great series and I wont remember it for the flopping.

ESPN Stats & Info ‏@ESPNStatsInfo 21m
Gregg Popovich is nearly 22 years older than Erik Spoelstra. Elias says that is largest age diff between head coaches in NBA Finals history.

i agree with all of that, it's also not one of the 10 most important things that ever happens in any basketball game

it's not its importance per se, it's that fans all hate it, it's very noticeable, and it's not "basketball".

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:16 (ten years ago) link

i mean "let's only discuss or wish a thing could change if it's 1 of the top 10 most important things in" X is just a silly position to hold.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:17 (ten years ago) link

lets complain nearly constantly about a thing thats not that important is a silly position to hold

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:20 (ten years ago) link

"important"

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:22 (ten years ago) link

this is a message board that had a one month debate about whether a Cee Lo song would be a hit

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:24 (ten years ago) link

obv it really takes away from people's enjoyment of games, otherwise they wouldn't be complaining about it

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:24 (ten years ago) link

you are not scoring any points by comparing yrself to ilm!

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:25 (ten years ago) link

the floppin ass spurs heat thread is thataway folks

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:25 (ten years ago) link

league thought it was important enough not to outcome of games but to fan enjoyment to pretend like they're trying to curtail it

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:25 (ten years ago) link

how about every time a player flops, the opposing team gets to kick him in the nuts

they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) (DJP), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:29 (ten years ago) link

when you think about it, getting punched in the nuts is not one of the 10 most important things in the world, quit complaining about it

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:30 (ten years ago) link

complaining abt flopping is the yelp reviewing of the nba

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:31 (ten years ago) link

y'all are frontin', I'm off to the espn comments section where they discuss REAL issues.

Poster The Sheeple (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:33 (ten years ago) link

after a flop, the flopping player has to give everyone in the arena a dollar

it's more like "I enjoyed THE FUCK out of these playoffs, man I love the NBA...just wish that flopping shit would go away". People love to complain, and this is really the one thing to complain about. That and those damn refs ugh the whole thing is fixed you know that right fuck the NBA.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:35 (ten years ago) link

fun that both teams took turns trolling each other and the league so we have no real gauge of how they will match up this year.

Poster The Sheeple (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:35 (ten years ago) link

flopper has to give up 1 entourage member per flop

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:36 (ten years ago) link

Mo money mo problems iirc. We are rewarding their flopping by takin away their problems it ain't right

a very generous Cordoban (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:37 (ten years ago) link

after being caught flopping, the player must put on ankle weights and prancercise for the next 60 seconds of the game

they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) (DJP), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:38 (ten years ago) link

flopper has to impregnate nearest gold digger

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:38 (ten years ago) link

the thing with flopping is that both sides can do it, it doesnt give either side an inherent advantage unless one team gets all its players from idk the julliard school of acting

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:38 (ten years ago) link

yeah that's not what's bad about flopping, it being an unfair advantage

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:40 (ten years ago) link

I'm a big proponent of "if you aren't cheating you aren't trying". On the other hand I think that a flop should be a technical foul.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 21:41 (ten years ago) link

Need a 'shoot the moon' option where if you acquire 1 million USD in flopping fines from one game, you are league champion
