ahh yes, all of us who complain about flopping and reffing clearly just don't enjoy basketball :)

frogbs, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:28 (ten years ago) link

it could be you just dont know what enjoyment is?

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:32 (ten years ago) link

unless it's your team getting the short stick

i think by the time the sixers get good again the league will have figured out a way to kerb flopping. looking forward to the flop free year of 2027

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:33 (ten years ago) link

maybe basketball will evolve to where points are awarded for the best flops

they are either militarists (ugh) or kangaroos (?) (DJP), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:34 (ten years ago) link

it's true, chalmers was out of control last night

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:37 (ten years ago) link

i do think that flopping is not exactly some scourge upon the league, though. it's more hilarious than anything.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:38 (ten years ago) link

nah it can totally change the course of a game and swing momentum.

why pee on the beat (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:39 (ten years ago) link

really the easiest way to deter flopping is for the refs to loosen up what they call and let the teams play. don't be so ticky-tacky on screens and off-ball play.

it's better to not reward flopping in the first place than to reward flopping on the court then try to retroactively punish with a fine.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:39 (ten years ago) link

i do think that the focus on flopping as a topic can deter from great and compelling series such as this one. in the grand scheme it's pretty minor.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

yeah totally with that. Like Chalmers not getting the calls last night was more gratifying than a whistle and 5k fine xp

Yeah agree but like anything you love you can always critique it and see where minor/major improvements can be made without doing anything too drastic.

*flop*

joe bogus (am0n), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:46 (ten years ago) link

does soccer do anything about flopping? any fans of the 'beautiful game' itt

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 15:57 (ten years ago) link

you could probably fix flopping w/ the threat of suspensions

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 16:14 (ten years ago) link

gee I wonder why you have this laissez faire 'tude about it

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 16:19 (ten years ago) link

flopping is pathetic, disgusting, horrible and it's cheating. If your favorite team does a lot of it it's time to find a new team.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link

lol

乒乓, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 16:22 (ten years ago) link

spurs vs. heat is a great battle of OG floppers vs. the new guard, should be hilarious indeed

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 16:25 (ten years ago) link

my hope is for multiple simultaneous flops that end with the ball out of bounds

Multiple Matt OTMs.

Harping about flopping isn't a lotta fun but it's one of the worst aspects of the game and I'm all in favor of whatever fascist rule changes that could go far in eliminating them. Next CBA should include JVG as Flop Czar w/ the power to hand out suspensions.

Only bright spot for me from last night's game was how few flops the refs fell for. Watching someone flop themselves out of offensive/defensive position w/o getting the call is life-affirming.

Seriously jumped up off the couch last night when chalmers flopped and PG hit the 3 and then yelled STOP FLOPPING... STOP FLOPPING.... FLOPPIN ASS NI**A

why pee on the beat (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:01 (ten years ago) link

haha see that would have greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the game had I been watching with you

Floyd Mayweather hasn't tweeted a picture of the betting slip so I guess that bet never happened :(

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:16 (ten years ago) link

every team flops because it's rewarded

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:42 (ten years ago) link

flop fines should be levied immediately, teams should have to go 4 on 5 while the flopper runs to the locker room for his wallet and 5k in cash

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:56 (ten years ago) link

like, chalmers was flopping like a fish last night. it didn't effect the game at all and now we all get to make fun of mario chalmers.

i don't see the problem here

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:57 (ten years ago) link

lebron flops all over the court in game 6 and we get a hilarious vine out of it and the pacers crush the heat, i don't see the big deal

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 17:58 (ten years ago) link

you can say it's no big deal and the league can also step it's penalties up at the same time. if the only downside is less funny gifs, i can live with that

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:00 (ten years ago) link

you said yourself that it works, so clearly teams that flop more have an advantage. It affects wins and losses.

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:01 (ten years ago) link

what's an example of flopping swinging a game

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:04 (ten years ago) link

i don't know that it affects all that much in the long-run, but it's a part of the game that no one needs or likes and that the league would be perfectly justified in punishing

k3vin k., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:04 (ten years ago) link

i agree with all of that, it's also not one of the 10 most important things that ever happens in any basketball game

Clippers win by 1

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:10 (ten years ago) link

it also can def swing momentum at a crucial time. Like that PG play could have been a huge swing cos thats 3 points erased and another foul on him and gets the crowd juiced and makes Chalmers and his think they can and SHOULD do it again and again.

that's pretty tin-foil hat to me

to me it's just like, wow what an awesome series that was with so many different story lines and great games that hinged on a hundred strategic decisions and the play of some of the best players in the nba. and we're talking bout flopping, man. flopping.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 4 June 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link
