im not sure if i recall correctly (lol) but i think larry bird could do this too- or maybe it was magic or maybe both of them- if you describe a game situation to them they will take it from there and tell you where a teammate turned the ball over or whatever

dunno bout bird or magic but doug collins has freakish bball memory

the heat can employ no strategy to overcome wade and bosh shooting 1-15 (or whatever) in the east finals

everything else besides that point is just noise

joel played well anyway

yeah p much, at one point i looked at that bench and thought there's 34 million dollars' worth of wade and bosh just chilling while joel and mike miller try to spark a comeback, which is totally understandable given how terrible they were but still

hibbert has been huge and george has been very good and really indiana's wins have been when their Medium Five outplays the Big Three in aggregate and everything else on that side is probably just noise too

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Monday, 3 June 2013 11:30 (ten years ago) link

i do think spoelstra is a really good coach but vogel has been a teensy bit better this series, or at least real close

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Monday, 3 June 2013 11:32 (ten years ago) link

when did we first know wade had a bum knee?

乒乓, Monday, 3 June 2013 11:48 (ten years ago) link

looking at his game log he took two games off in the middle of november and has been pretty erratic since

lag∞n, Monday, 3 June 2013 12:32 (ten years ago) link

wade had a great winter!

k3vin k., Monday, 3 June 2013 12:51 (ten years ago) link

ha sry november is not the month i meant!

lag∞n, Monday, 3 June 2013 12:56 (ten years ago) link

that would be like the entire season

lag∞n, Monday, 3 June 2013 12:56 (ten years ago) link

wade was balky the entire second half. he sat games during the streak, basically didn't play at all once it ended and rested during game 4 of the bucks series.

J0rdan S., Monday, 3 June 2013 13:57 (ten years ago) link

i'd still be a little shocked if the Heat dont win the title.

frogbs, Monday, 3 June 2013 14:07 (ten years ago) link

the new emerging narrative is that heat shouldn't have gone for the streak, #restwade

乒乓, Monday, 3 June 2013 14:08 (ten years ago) link

has the backpedaling on the Heat already begun? wait until and see if actually lose Game 7... (and i hate the Heat)

Nhex, Monday, 3 June 2013 14:10 (ten years ago) link

the way this series has gone the Heat are going to shoot like 65% tonight. how much of this kind of talk did we have last year vs. both this team and the Celts?

frogbs, Monday, 3 June 2013 14:15 (ten years ago) link

i think they'll win tonight

they look really energized in game 5 behind the crowd and remarkably dead in game 6, i'd imagine (and hope) it swings way back the other way in game 7

J0rdan S., Monday, 3 June 2013 14:21 (ten years ago) link

yeah i'm sorry but i do not want to see the pacers in the finals

k3vin k., Monday, 3 June 2013 14:34 (ten years ago) link

xxp that's true, leading up to that monster Lebron game where he took out the Celts by himself there was a lot of choke talk

Nhex, Monday, 3 June 2013 14:36 (ten years ago) link

Huh. I thought Jason Kidd retired before the playoffs.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 3 June 2013 16:43 (ten years ago) link

good one!

why pee on the beat (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 3 June 2013 16:45 (ten years ago) link

these columns today from posnanski and pflanns that are like IT'S ALL ON LEBRON seem really off-base and fossilized to me

J0rdan S., Monday, 3 June 2013 16:46 (ten years ago) link

technically they're "right" in the sense that of course lebron is the single most important player in the series but if the heat lose tonight -- assuming lebron doesn't put up an epic stinkbomb -- the only legacies ("legacies") that will be hurt will be wade, bosh, ray allen, maybe spoelstra etc

lebron banked his bonafides last playoffs i think, the narrative if they lose will be about how everyone else failed

J0rdan S., Monday, 3 June 2013 16:48 (ten years ago) link

yeah a lot of the LeBron haters are mostly dumbfounded by how washed up Wade looks and aren't really saying anything about LeBron other than his flopping

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 16:51 (ten years ago) link

Even washed-up Wade can have an efficient game (and has had a few these playoffs), and honestly that's all they need from him / Bosh, as long as a few more players step up. They've already had unexpected brilliant games from Haslem and Birdman; if either of them, or Chalmers, Allen, Battier, or even Cole can come through w/ a surprise 15pt game, Miami should be able to coast tonight.

rip kidd and hill, both easy HOFers

k3vin k., Monday, 3 June 2013 17:21 (ten years ago) link

Hill gonna end up being the most anonymous HOFer from the past 30 years. I had to youtube some career mixes just to remind myself that he was the first in a long list of Jorden heir apparents. Impossible to argue against his career numbers, but it's amazing that he'll probably be best remembered for his injury stats more than anything.

I'm sure Elias is buzzing right now w/ some sweet stats collected over a combined 38 years of gameplay.

IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Monday, 3 June 2013 17:30 (ten years ago) link

Ugh already foreseeing Bron driving the lane / dumping off for 48 mins tonight. Worried it might be a blowout.

IM ME, I DO ME, AND I CHILL (CompuPost), Monday, 3 June 2013 17:35 (ten years ago) link

heat are favored by 7 across the board in vegas

J0rdan S., Monday, 3 June 2013 17:44 (ten years ago) link

Grant Hill probably wouldn't deserve to be a Hall of Famer without his college achievements imo

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 17:46 (ten years ago) link

well, he wouldn't based on how absurdly exclusive the hall is.

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 17:46 (ten years ago) link

i like that the basketball hall is exclusive. but grant has 5 all-NBA selections, 7 all-star selections, 2 NCAA championships, and a gold medal. and he was just amazing when healthy

k3vin k., Monday, 3 June 2013 17:54 (ten years ago) link

all-star selections are pretty lame though, fans are so dumb

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 17:57 (ten years ago) link

he got on the all-star team one year when he played 4 games, for example

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 17:57 (ten years ago) link

did Hill have a better pro career than Mitch Richmond? Walter Davis? It's debatable for sure. But the college success puts him over the top.

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 17:58 (ten years ago) link

god I forgot Mark Aguirre isn't in the hall, what the fuck is going on there

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 18:00 (ten years ago) link

pls basketball gods let the heat shit the bed 2nite

joe bogus (am0n), Monday, 3 June 2013 18:02 (ten years ago) link

richmond's prime was a little before my time but i don't think he was nearly the all-around player that hill was, and the newer stats now that i look aren't very kind to him. sweet D honestly i've only seen on youtubes i think

agree about aguirre though

k3vin k., Monday, 3 June 2013 18:37 (ten years ago) link

scott foster tonight =/

moullet, Monday, 3 June 2013 20:49 (ten years ago) link

Of course LeBron'll collapse under pressure tonight. It'll be Cleveland/Boston all over again.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 3 June 2013 20:58 (ten years ago) link

Floyd Mayweather reported bet 5.9 million on Miami -7 tonight

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 3 June 2013 21:03 (ten years ago) link

hahahahahaha

i didn't know wade could shoot the corner

乒乓, Monday, 3 June 2013 21:26 (ten years ago) link

he randomly made one in game 6

J0rdan S., Monday, 3 June 2013 21:31 (ten years ago) link

where's the hype, ilh krew

Clay, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 00:29 (ten years ago) link

Ugh, nervous to see first few minutes ... fastest way to figure out if it'll be a close game or not is by Indy's defensive intensity in the first ~10 possessions.
