Ismael Klata, Sunday, 2 June 2013 10:00 (ten years ago) link

i wonder what the wages are like in scandinavia etc

Dean Martin, simply known as Deano, has played in Iceland every year since 1996

I think I might rename the site "The Scions": Brits abroad. Irish too, go on.

Been working for this day tbh. Anyway no serious footy board can afford to ignore that Anglo-Icelandic demographic. Still not troubling the 'most read' table though.

ten months pass...

I see Jay Simpson is currently turning out for Buriram in Thailand.

Bobby Williamson in Uganda. For a while I thought this guy was going to turn into a top manager, I'm pleased to see him having an interesting career.

He's now in Kenya and won the league in his first (part) season.

read an interesting article about Johnny McKinstry a while ago, a young NI coach who was working in an academy in Sierra Leone and has ended up managing the national side.

there's an englishman in this season's eredivisie top score list, from recollection his wikipedia page states that is 1.89m tall and in his early thirties, possibly 31, don't remember the name

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 16 April 2014 17:52 (ten years ago) link

Mike Higdon, formerly of Motherwell.

0.03m and 0.5 years out

We never kicked on from that weird burst of publicity upthread.

I've got new respect for these bros from reading The Nowhere Men and seeing the ordeal journeymen can have to put themselves through to secure another year's employment. I saw Craig Gordon punditing recently and he was going on about assessing his options and waiting for the right offer to get back in the game and it was like: 'what are you doing?'

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 18:51 (ten years ago) link

wikipedia says jay simpson is earning half a million a year which sort of reconfigures the mendicant journeyman stereotype i envisage for these people

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 16 April 2014 18:58 (ten years ago) link

like how much would john aldridge have been earning in san sebastian at the age of 31 in 1990/91? probably no more than jay simpson does now, adjusted for inflation, and that was a slightly past it near-great or at least very good player rather than another shitty arsenal youth forward

This guy is top scorer in the MLS, tied with Bradley Wright-Philips:

Trained with us a few months ago; was rumoured to be interested in signing (and, thus, moving in the opposite direction to BWP)

basically, the MLS is equivalent to Charlton Athletic

He signed for Police United in Thai Premier League on 2-year deal, after made just 3 league appearances for Antalyaspor last season.[32] However, Ferdinand later denied signing for Police United. [33] The next week, he arrived in Bangkok to sign for Police United on 18 June 2014.[34][35] He and Teeratep Winothai were unveiled as new Police United signings in a press conference on 20 June and he said former QPR team-mate Jay Bothroyd, who plays for Muangthong United convinced him.[36]

Ravel Morrison is on the bench for Atlas Guadalajara tonight. He seems to have made a reasonable start to his career in Liga MX.

Colin Kazim-Richards mostly features as a sub these days for Corinthians but I love the incongruity of him being at of of Brazil’s most famous clubs.

Wag1 Shree Rajneesh (ShariVari), Saturday, 24 February 2018 03:41 (six years ago) link

I always remember him as the Coca-Cola Kid. He has played for loads of the giants of Europe/Turkey already, god knows how he has maintained such a dazzling career - he looked well below par in league one.

calzino, Saturday, 24 February 2018 21:20 (six years ago) link

He was gash at Celtic.

ailsa, Sunday, 25 February 2018 11:38 (six years ago) link

I appreciate his willingness to go further afield. Rare in British players and probably due to his uk/Turkey background? He is shit at fitba but

Lots of talk about panic buying this week had me thinking about who our worst "last minute signing in January transfer window" signing was. CKR is the squashed out of date brown loaf at the back of the shelf that you throw out for the birds then sweep up a week later.

Jamal Musaia has just scored his first goal for Bayern Munich, Jude Bellingham scored on his Dortmund debut in the week and Yunus Musah started for Valencia on Saturday. Musah, born in 2002, is the oldest of the three.

Watch out for Noni Madueke, 18 y/o, who went from Spurs to PSV in 2018. He's having his breakthough right now, w/ an assist last week and goal this weekend, winning himself a place in the first XI this new season. Nice interview about him this weekend where he said Jadon Sancho is his - and his generations - idol, in that there's ways outside of the UK to get to the top. Top bloke.
