heat spurs will be fun, not sure waht to expect since both sides engaged in benching wars during the regular season

乒乓, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 10:05 (ten years ago) link

should be interesting. heat def vulnerable to teams that can shoot the three, but spurs have trouble with athleticism

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 28 May 2013 10:47 (ten years ago) link

I want a zach Lowe piece on what adjustments the spurs have made since last year to address their vulnerability to athleticism

lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 11:58 (ten years ago) link

cause they were looking p shook v warriors then they locked it down

lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 11:59 (ten years ago) link

obvs the warriors r not the heat tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 11:59 (ten years ago) link

his moves haven't been TERRIBLE... mahinmi is better than collison but he's playing 5 mins a game in the ECF, so how good is he really? augistin has turned it up a bit recently... he can at least hit an open three

i thought gerald green would work out. drafting plumlee was awful though.

but that graphic was def pretty funny.

Mahinmi was the only pickup that has worked out-- dude has done a fantastic job on defense. He forces up a lot of bad shots but that's more of a function of an offensively awful 2nd team; if Granger were 6th-manning that unit, it'd be a much different story.

Augustin, Young and Green haven't lived up to expectation at all, though. Seems like Augustin really needs gameflow to play well, which isn't a good sign for your 2nd team pg. Young looked shook even in regular season games; and Green, ugh. Feel like he might have a secret problem w/ the intellectual side of the game -- offensive sets, defensive rotations, etc. One of the most athletic dudes in the league somehow devolved into a dude who just jacks 3pts until Vogel takes him out. idgi, he should be back-dooring people and throwing down lobs.

And eh, Plumlee was a bottom-of-1st-rnd pick who they didn't expect to really play this year. They got him to replace Jeff Foster, ie dude who can pick up a ton of rebounds, so it's way too early to really judge the pick. Even if he's gonna be a 18min/game junk player, he still has to be developed.

Also RIP Grizz, very unceremonious exit from the playoffs after a great run. Guess they have Conley/Zbo/Gasol locked in for a few more years; just need to resign Tony Allen (although they'll have to pay like 2X as much now), move some of their bench trash, get healthy, and finally make the full run in the next few years-- got a two year window.

if allen is going to be expensive i would definitely think twice about re-signing him. dude's just too much of a liability on offense

ha, good call

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9316310/analyzing-kawhi-leonard-george-hill-trade-2013-conference-finals

zach lowe recounting the kawhi-hill trade.

Sometime near the moment Leonard stepped onto the draft lottery stage, Popovich, sitting in the Spurs draft room near Buford and Lindsey, picked up the phone. He wanted to tell Hill, whom he still calls "Georgie," about the trade himself. It might have been the most vulnerable Buford had ever seen Popovich, Buford says. "It was so emotional. I was there. I saw it. He was incredibly emotional." Buford wouldn't get into the details, as is the Spurs way. "I wouldn't do that," he says. "But it was very difficult."4

that was sort of close for a sweep but i think the grizz were just demoralized after timmy ripped them apart in the ot last game

Asked whether the league's crackdown has been effective, Wade said, "I don't know. I don't want to get into all that. I don't want to get into it."

The Heat guard said there are limits when it comes to the league making such judgment calls.

"It happens. It happens," he said, with no call made on the play he stumbled out of bounds, other than the change of possession. "We would have no NBA possibly if they got rid of all the flopping."

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 21:40 (ten years ago) link

"It's year one, so you're not just going to go cold turkey," James said. "Guys have been accustomed to doing it for years, and it's not even a bad thing. You're just trying to get the advantage. Any way you can get the advantage over an opponent to help your team win, then so be it."

Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 21:46 (ten years ago) link

omg two of the top 10 players in the league just flat out saying it
