The old lady is my Aunt Jenny. Mother and father also pictured on the right. Basically half my family worked for the forest service. I knew the guy in the bear suit too. His name was Carlton.

onimo you always have consistently great old photos

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 21 June 2013 11:44 (ten years ago) link

I think that photo was colourised (or whatever you call it - taken in B&W then doctored however they did it pre-Photoshop in the studio) as I remember my mother saying some of the colours didn't quite match the actual clothes we were wearing.

amazing
how did they meet?

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 5 July 2013 04:23 (ten years ago) link

a blind date, of all things.

FIL's brother had a friend who lived in the same apartment as MIL, and his brother (who had a girlfriend), had an eye for women & kept suggesting FIL should meet her. FIL said he only agreed to the date because he ran out of excuses not to go.

They met in Feb 1964, were head over heels by their third date and married in July of the same year.

She was a teacher in SF, but had also travelled, teaching for Dept of Defense in Germany, Japan and Phillippines. He was a geologist - worked in South America (mainly Bolivia) in the early 60's for various pil companies. And an ex-football player, hence the physique :)

In the foreground, being blonde. That's my paternal grandfather, former fire chief, a craftsman who only went to school through the 8th grade, and who had a stroke late in life that left him only able to say "Je-sus Christ" and one other thing, I forget now that the other one was....

Awwwww great photo!

My prom date wore black and gave me a corsage with just black roses. He was just a classmate in my drama class.

these were the last days before the dark cloud of adolescence truly descended

same caption for mine. i think soon afterward i finally started getting taller (i was about 4'11" and 13 years old in the photo iirc) and stopped hyperactively hopping around all of the time, and then i hated everything on earth -inside, outside, past present future- for the next 7 years or so.

Z S, Friday, 16 August 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link

Oh wow you had an INXS tshirt?? Pre-adolescent me is impressed w your coolness.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 16 August 2013 15:46 (ten years ago) link

i was also about 4'11" but i was definitely 12 because that hair didn't last very long

my two bffs and i went to the show with our moms! it was the first time our moms let us hang out on our own.
