I hope that's you wearing it, because a) it looks like an extremely comfortable and useful dress and could be accessorized any which way, and b) the bedroom in the background looks so light and refreshing that I hope it's yours.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:06 (ten years ago) link

it looks like my gradeschool uniform jumper, which i always loved the shape of secretly even though i complained about wearing it every day
i have one that's kinda like that that i like to wear blouses underneath but i don't know what it's called either!

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:12 (ten years ago) link

Yes, it is me and my bedroom, which I do like very much! I love the shape and the versatility so will be scouring the internet for something similar. 'Box-pleated skirt', that's what I didn't know how to say.

ljubljana, Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:24 (ten years ago) link

Love it!

*tera, Thursday, 23 May 2013 15:44 (ten years ago) link

whatever it is, cute.

JuliaA, Thursday, 23 May 2013 17:04 (ten years ago) link

orbit otm, it's just a natural waist. drop waist falls below the hips.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 23 May 2013 17:27 (ten years ago) link

It's a fitted bodice with a natural waist and a box-pleated skirt, made of what looks like jersey or another soft fabric

This would normally be a 'fit n flare' (in the 90s and also now, apparently) and I'm not sure if that's any different from a 'skater dress' which are normally short.
But I dunno if this is that either!
Schooly ones that you wear blouses under are pinafores

kinder, Thursday, 23 May 2013 17:40 (ten years ago) link

There are a lot if box pleated dresses on eshakti - I have a green and white gingham sleeveless one with a split neckline, and I just ordered a black one with a shirt style collar. They're also doing a big sale right now and size etc customizations are free!

just1n3, Thursday, 23 May 2013 19:05 (ten years ago) link

Time to try them, then! FFM, I think you said the duty for Canadian import was variable?...

ljubljana, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:29 (ten years ago) link

It is! I'd try one at a time, bulk orders got me dinged with customs fees but I'd often sneak through if I'd only ordered one. Sometimes I didn't though! Can't say I exactly understand customs fees.

I just got this amazing nightgown mumu maxidress - http://www.evansusa.com/wcsstore/Evans/images/catalog/04J46NMUL_large.jpg

I was afraid it would be shapeless, but it's got some nice drape to it and if I put on a belt, I can even wear it to work. Also, it feels like a nightgown.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:40 (ten years ago) link

Aww, that's cute. Bonus that its comfortable!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:40 (ten years ago) link

To be clear, it is not actually a nightgown. It's supposed to be a dress. It's just a very soft jersey knit. I probably could have gone a size down, but it's not bad enough that I'm going to ship this shit back to England.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:41 (ten years ago) link

Could that dress be called a jumper? I would almost say shift, except I don't think shifts can have waists. xpost

emilys., Friday, 24 May 2013 01:53 (ten years ago) link

I love those kinds of big flowery red/white patterns on black. Why don't I own any? It is a mystery.

ljubljana, Friday, 24 May 2013 02:53 (ten years ago) link

First eshakti order placed, after approx two years of dithering and not ordering anything. Three dresses for $145 including shipping to Canada!

ljubljana, Monday, 27 May 2013 02:51 (ten years ago) link

Yay! I hope you love them.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 May 2013 03:40 (ten years ago) link

Who knew that above-bust and across-bust measurements are basically the same? How is this possible?

ljubljana, Monday, 27 May 2013 04:32 (ten years ago) link

two weeks pass...

They arrived! Two are great, fit perfectly; one is too long in the body so that the waistband sits wrong, and slightly too large on top in general. Have to decide whether to return it or get it altered.

ljubljana, Saturday, 15 June 2013 00:29 (ten years ago) link

I wish it wasn't so hit and miss, because those two options are exactly what I encountered. Sometimes perfect, sometimes too big on top.

six months pass...

I got this dress over a year ago, it didn't fit, but I was too lazy to send it back to eShakti:

woo!

It looks great!

All but one of my eshakti dresses are unwearable now because they attract too much dog hair (cotton
(Cotton poplin sucks).

just1n3, Wednesday, 1 January 2014 16:32 (ten years ago) link

It is a pet hair magnet.

FFM, you look lovely.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 1 January 2014 16:40 (ten years ago) link

Ugh, yes - those cotton dresses do attract everything going. This is some sort of plasticky fabric - takes a bit getting used to but everything slides right off, haha

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 1 January 2014 20:49 (ten years ago) link

yeah cotton poplin is the devil's fabric

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 1 January 2014 21:43 (ten years ago) link

is that what it is? i havent noticed the fur thing but it feels so vile on my skin. stupid poplin.

FFM you look gorgeous

two months pass...

i wasn't sure where to put this bc i kinda want to put it everywhere but:

http://shopjeweltoned.com/

i saw an article on xojane about this online store that does a handful of COLORFUL "shapewear" pieces and was instantly on that shit and ordering it up. i got the electric blue mini and the emerald green full slip. it's not traditional shapewear, in that it doesn't attempt to slim or whatever, the garments are just supposed to give a smooth line. so perfect for too-short skirts and dresses.

SO AWESOME GUYS although i haven't worn either of them out of the house so i can't vouch for weather the ride up or roll down.

the sizing is limited but apparently they're coming up with plus sizes soon. i think the mini could fit up to a 16-18 in the xl, but the slip doesn't have much bust room - i got a large because they didn't have xl left, and the body is fine (i'm about a 14) but the bust is major spillage, and the cup inserts are basically useless. not sure if have a bra that'll work with this, either, which might be annoying.

but the COLORS omg, i've been wanting something like this forever. i hope they do more crazy colors.

SHARETHELOVE coupon gets you 20% or (25%? can't remember), and they do free shipping

just1n3, Monday, 12 May 2014 23:53 (nine years ago) link

Oh that is AWESOME. Ordering some stat.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 13:01 (nine years ago) link

I have this cute dress i got from eshakti ages ago that is just too short, and the blue mini is perfect under it - the little bit of electric blue poking out looks really awesome

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 14:41 (nine years ago) link

is shapewear a necessary thing? how do you wear it?

funch dressing (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:06 (nine years ago) link

necessary is the wrong word -- useful?

funch dressing (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:06 (nine years ago) link

Well it depends - this particular brand makevs multi function shapewear, so each piece can be worn on its own, as a slip or as actual shapewear. I mostly want this stuff as a layer between the world and my butt bc I'm super paranoid about ppl seeing up my skirt, and I don't always want to wear long stuff.

For me, I know that I felt more comfortable in my wedding dress with a shaping pair of undies underneath , they weren't tight or uncomfortable, but they gave me a nicer line or silhouette.

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

This particular brand is also good to wear with sheer stuff, instead of boring beige.

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:18 (nine years ago) link

Oh and I tested the mini today - it probably rode up at the bottom a couple of inches, but was still fine, and I may have pulled it down too far anyway, and the top didn't roll down (after a couple miles walking, no sitting)

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:20 (nine years ago) link

gotcha
i like bike shorts under skirts while biking for that reason
it had never occurred to me to wear these under sheer stuff - that's a good idea!
