Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 23 May 2013 04:45 (ten years ago) link

cot damn the second to last lebron layup was VICIOUS

乒乓, Thursday, 23 May 2013 11:55 (ten years ago) link

vogel taking out hibbert in those last two possessions is basically the textbook definition of overthinking yourself

lol this game

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Thursday, 23 May 2013 13:05 (ten years ago) link

paul george could not have been worse in the first quarter and almost could not have been better toward the end...except that last play

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Thursday, 23 May 2013 13:06 (ten years ago) link

that was pure dynamite from bron though- recognized no hibbert = go to the hoop, gets that first step on george, changes direction so fast the game is over before hansbro and young can even think about rotating

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Thursday, 23 May 2013 13:07 (ten years ago) link

I like the Heat but I am kinda sick of them winning these types of games

i know i said this already but i have no idea how indy was in the game at all it seemed like they spent the first 20 seconds of every possession attempting to turn the ball over

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 May 2013 16:48 (ten years ago) link

Paul George on overplaying LBJ: "I'm used to having Roy back there. I gotta know who's going out on the floor with me."

polyphonic, Thursday, 23 May 2013 18:15 (ten years ago) link

in other words... SUCK IT VOGEL

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 23 May 2013 18:19 (ten years ago) link

Mark Jackson did the same thing w Bogut at the end of that game one against Spurs meltdown. Small ball to so we can match up!

"oh I failed to realize that ginormous 7'3" guy wasn't one of the 4 other guys out here w/me oops"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:24 (ten years ago) link

it's a fair thing to say, he's just saying that he's used to being free to contest the inbounds like that because if he over pursues he'll have hibbert protecting the rim

tbh I'm surprised the whole "passing to the bench when your teammates are standing and wearing bright jerseys" doesn't happen more often

frogbs, Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link

ive def seen it before but yes

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 May 2013 20:52 (ten years ago) link

it's a classic shook thing to do tbh

glad he redeemed himself after that

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 23 May 2013 21:31 (ten years ago) link

Vogel probably has one year left just because firing him right away for this one mistake is so brutal, but the players have to have no confidence in him now right?

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 23 May 2013 21:33 (ten years ago) link

it depends is he the guy who coaches the defense or not

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 May 2013 21:35 (ten years ago) link

he seems like a good coach i think it would be foolish to fire him

it seems like the sorta thing you can mitigate after the fact to an extent. like if he stood in front of them in the locker room and took responsibility for screwing up the personnel decisions than it would probably blow over.

also it depends on how much they trusted him previously. it was interesting to me that so many players openly usurped him to the press immediately after the game. i don't think anyone on the heat or bulls or spurs or celtics (etc) would do that

J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 May 2013 21:43 (ten years ago) link

yeah agree on both points

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 23 May 2013 22:09 (ten years ago) link

we see such a small % of what a head coach does and how he interacts w/his players etc, seems a bit of a reach to make the "he's lost the team" call at this point.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 23 May 2013 22:11 (ten years ago) link

the things george and hibbert are saying are pretty ominous

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 23 May 2013 22:13 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's definitely weird

J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 May 2013 22:17 (ten years ago) link

wonder if LBJ thinks that's a "basketball play"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 23 May 2013 22:52 (ten years ago) link

Birdman is averaging 20-10-1-1-3.5 per 36 on 83 percent shooting in the playoffs

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:27 (ten years ago) link

damn

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:28 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's interesting to me that there's been no talk about what's gonna happen to him next year

i have no idea if the heat can afford to keep him. maybe the fit is so good for him that he'd take less money on an exception or something.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:28 (ten years ago) link

I still wouldnt sign that guy for more than a year

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:29 (ten years ago) link

at least we've moved beyond the bizarre period when people pretended that he couldn't play anymore for some unknown reason

― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, May 23, 2013 5:33 PM (2 hours ago)

vogel's a genius imo and judging by the great team defense the pacers play, all the players have to have bought in to a degree that makes me think they'd all have his back. indy is just a shooter/ballhandler away from being an elite team i think, especially with PG and hibbert continuing to improve

Xp He's comfortable with the bizarre period called "game time," during which an arena-sized group of people pretends to not notice "free bird" tattooed on his neck

a very generous Cordoban (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 24 May 2013 00:14 (ten years ago) link

but yeah otoh PG saying what he did is weird. maybe it's just youth

― Matt Armstrong, Thursday, May 23, 2013 7:32 PM (43 minutes ago)

by people we mean karl

Are we sure that PG didn't mean he needs to be more aware on the court?

a very generous Cordoban (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 24 May 2013 00:16 (ten years ago) link

PG's words don't necessarily blame Vogel, but perhaps the video says more

no, when Denver got rid of him a ton of writers said that he couldn't play anymore/didn't have the hops etc.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 24 May 2013 00:30 (ten years ago) link

ha i was just referring to that last year he was there and couldn't find the court

Denver is one of the few teams that actually has a glut of centers, they probably didn't think he was that washed up

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 24 May 2013 00:38 (ten years ago) link

i distinctly remembered us wondering why he never played!

me too, i always liked bird, huge pickup for the heat

lag∞n, Friday, 24 May 2013 00:54 (ten years ago) link

there have been so many different kinds of birdman, remember this birdman?

i desperately want robert swift to be signed and for him to play against birdman

Yeah I remember asking about this. I've kinda always had a soft spot for him.
