yeah i think you should call this child's parents first, if possible, seeing as we're on the verge of the weekend. it might be an awkward conversation, and they might be defensive, but i think it's worth it to make sure the child is safe.

Just as an update, I was able to contact the principal, who in turn got in touch with the kid's parents and they're all going to work together to support her. Thanks for the advice and support guys.

Ophelia's friend told her she cuts herself. And it's very clear she has an eating disorder. At the last PTA meeting I told the teacher. It is maybe "awkward" but I think it's the right thing. Ophelia is very concerned. I told her she can go to a guidance counselor (sp?).
Very proud of her for being concerned. Not many kids that age would realize the implications but she does.
