So, Mars-One

I feel we need a thread about this. I've been reading the FAQ on the website for a good 45 minutes (I can recommend it btw), and call me crazy, but I think they will actually pull it off. The technical side of this project seem the easiest, to me. I believe technically it should not be too difficult to get people on Mars.
But it's the psychological and sociological side of this experiment that interests me most. The endearing, cringeworthy, lol-hard application videos are pouring in right now, they are a treat to watch.

This thread is for all things concerning Mars One. Are they trolling the world? Will it succeed or not? What will the implications be: is it the first step in colonising space beyond the earth, or a mission doomed from the start? Will we be glued to our tellies when the time arrives? And how it will impact those actually choosing to leave earth for good? And how will that impact us? Or is it all lol bollocks?

I took the batteries out of Hal 9000 so you are free to roam and speak your mind, he won't lock you out.

(obvious '2001' ref in the title iirc)

Your thought processes are persistent.
You persevere and remain productive.
You see the connection between your internal and external self.
You are at your best when things are at their worst.
You have indomitable spirit.
You understand the purpose of actions may not be clear in the moment, but there is good reason—you trust those who guide you.
You have a “Can do!” attitude.
