teams pass up high value shots all the time for reasons known only to coach types. a manu/harden/durant/cp3 "rushed" 2 for 1 (really who else does this consistently?) is usually a fine shot and worth at least an extra point in the aggregate

i actively hope that clay bennett's penny-pinching prevents the thunder from ever winning a title

there are probably too few people who actually do 2-for-1s to be able to measure this unfortunately. but the thought obviosuly is that if each possession is worth about a point, instead of canceling out possessions 1 for 1 at the end of a quarter you can (in the aggregate) expect to add about a point to your score each time you do it

i understand the theory, i just wonder if it actually works in practice

if you're already going through all the games and looking at the 2 for 1s, it makes much more sense to just count the scoring of those possessions instead of correlating it with games won which would be a super noisy correlation at best

i definitely think they make sense if you can take a shot in between 35-30 seconds... otherwise i think you cut it too close to get a good possession on the back end

harden is the ideal two for one player because of his three point shooting and how quickly he can get to the rim imo

doesn't need to be a 3 tho, all those guys i mentioned barrel into the paint for quick layups all the time too. a layup's about the same EV as a 3

even a long 2 i don't hate in those situations, all the guys who actually consciously do this are good shooters and you're still probably talking about positive value even with a less than ideal shot

Yeah, if you have a player who can drive / pull-up 3pt at a decent percentage, 2-1 is a no brainer as long as you're leaving yourself like +7 seconds.
