Thanks. Just before posting, I found a comp called "Original Foundation Deejays" on Spotify. After that, and sleep, will search Prince Far I and the Big Youth album.
BTW, the comp I queued has lots of I-Roy, U-Roy, Trinity, and Jazzbo, but also Dennis Alcapone, Big Joe, Clint Eastwood, Dillinger, and Jah Stitch. Never heard of any of the ones not mention in my initial post, but will give them a listen too.

Any other links, whether YouTube, Spotify, or whatever, would be appreciated.

Soul Jazz Records have done a whole series of Deejay compilations IIRC, and Spotify has a good selection of Prince Far I records. This one's a good place to start: http://open.spotify.com/album/6Uq1Pi1vKh675ASId0elCs

Dillinger's "Cocaine in My Brain" is amazing, it post-dates the classic 70s deejay era but is the year zero for digital reggae:

Madlib did a great mix of about 40 Trojan classics about 10 years ago: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Madlib-Presents-Blunted-Bomb-Shelter/dp/B00006RYH6 probably findable as a zip or whatevs, some classic ska and reggae but also some deep deejay cuts.

All great stuff on this thread so far, but I have a question. Is there a defining point between deejay tracks and dancehall proper? When was it? The early-80s stuff from Yellowman and Sister Nancy that I've heard is way different than the mid/late-70s stuff on this thread. Was it something that had been going on for a while but hadn't made it onto record?

I don't know U-Roy's catalog that well but Version Galore is a favorite of mine. Hard to go wrong toasting over the Paragons. RIP

Awesome story from Jon Langford:
Mekons played the beautiful Sines Festival in a Castle in Portugal in 2010. Took the boys down to breakfast and met U-Roy my total hero and he graciously invited us to sit with him. I was doing the Eclectic Company show for WXRT at the time and ran back upstairs to get my mini-recorder with Tommy running behind me yelling "Everyone U-Roy is here! U-Roy is here!". They knew exactly who he was from those long drives to school with me cranking his tunes. We did a little interview in the hotel breakfast room. To my horror Tommy's hand reached out and started stroking U-Roy's dreadlocks. "It's cool" said U-Roy "He can touch them." He did a station ID "This is U-Roy and you are listening to Jon Langford on the The Electric (sic) Company on WXRT, Chicago's finest RAAAAHHK!.... your son told me to say that". Well done James. Later he came out by the pool and waved to all the Mekons and we waved back...I pinched a bunch of his records from the VIRGIN press office in Vernon Yard back in 1979 and I still treasure them. They've been played so much down the years its amazing they still work, but they do, that incredible authoritative voice burned deep into the grooves forever! Thank you U-Roy - so glad my boys got to meet you - another terrible loss in 2021

I'm in a local history group on Facebook, to post nostalgia about old buildings etc. Some dimbulb woman posted a link mourning Rush Limbaugh's passing, and then got all incredulous when people told her not only was this an improper place for her post, but that Rush was a complete piece of shit.
I told her reggae great U-Roy passed but I didn't go blather on her gardening page about it.
RIP U-Roy.
