YES. Reading old metal threads on ILX and Metal Archives is basically all I'm into right now.

wing night at the beer bar
78rpm records of early country string bands
corner bistro twice in the last week
lawrence block's 'hit man' series (Block in general tbh; reading all the Matt Scudder books too, and a lot of the reprints via hard case crime.)
grooming our kitty cat charlie cuz it makes him SO HAPPY AND RELAXED AND SWEET.
playing with kitty cat squiggs cuz he needs to get tired out before bed or he's a terror
all the cats in general.

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 16:25 (ten years ago) link

absolutely worshiping yet utterly despising the Maldives

could you elaborate on this?

clouds, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 21:49 (ten years ago) link

i want to go there so badly but its 30-35 hrs travel time each way and a roundtrip ticket is approx $5000pp ie $20K for us just to get there. Cant imagine what a sweet hut on the water would add to that.

Two of my friends who live in England went to the Maldives for their honeymoon. I think it's shorter than that travel time wise from there but not by much. I'm pretty sure it took them a full day to finally get to their island. They did have one of those sweet huts on the water and the pictures are AMAZING. They were there for two weeks and said that by the end it started to get a little boring because there's literally nothing to do except lie around, take walks and go in the water but I guess you don't really want to fly that long to get somewhere and then leave a week later. Anyway, yeah, I want to go too.

there must be a cheaper way to get from the usa to the maldives, quick google says from £560 return from london

Yeah, I knew it was cheaper to fly from England cause those two are not loaded by any means. I think travel in general is cheaper from the UK. We don't really have anything like you guys do in terms of budget airlines and stuff. There are cheaper ones but not cheap cheap like you get over there.

i found tix for less than 2,000 sunny. you'd have to order in advance though: https://www.google.com/flights/#search;f=MDW,ORD;t=MLE;d=2013-10-09;r=2013-10-15;sel=ORDAUH0EY150-AUHCMB1EY266-CMBMLE2UL101;q=cheap+flights

even cheaper if you fly from LA https://www.google.com/flights/#search;f=LAX;t=MLE;d=2013-10-09;r=2013-10-15;sel=LAXNRT0MH93-NRTKUL1MH93-KULMLE2MH177;q=cheap+flights

i think i would rather visit somewhere in polynesia/melanesia etc but maldives would be nice too

Wow nice work clouds. Thx! Given the opportunity I'm happy to be in the water 24/7.

yeah a friend of mine got married in the maldives a couple of years ago - I was kind of annoyed because 90% of her talking about her wedding was about the travelling and I was like >:( idk care how long it took, TELL ME ABOUT THE HUTS ON THE WATER

wishing I had more opportunity to practise woodturning after a workshop last week
picking up plants to grow. Doing an organic gardening course
heavy psychy stoner-ish rock
getting better at Autocad, hopefully though I get days like today when I forget everything. Maybe I'm just hyperglycaemic

Private Schulz which I just fiished watching last night. Great turn of the 80s BBC war comedy about a hapless ne'erdowell & a set of scams that always benefit other people more tahn himself.

Other old BBC series, just been watching a lot recently starting with I, Claudius, through The Borgias, the oriiginal House of Cards wityh Ian Richardson, Elizabeth R, Edge of Darkness, Boys From The Blackstuff, Our Friends In The North, started Pennies From Heaven but not really gotte into it so far, may try a bit further though.
Got some Brideshead Revisited burnt next but having trouble converting it, not working with what I have been using for the last couple of months.

long islamic shirts now that the weather's getting warmer.

Action philosophers comic book summaries of the great philosophers.

looking forward to the new Ugly Things and Flashback! later this month.

Also fyi the *quintessential* Levan album is Gwen Guthrie's "Padlock" which is a remix album he did. It's probably the best disco album of all time, really.

Also, once you start digging deeper there's a fantastic series of compilations called Disco Discharge; they're all 2xCD and there's maybe like 20 all together? They all have themes, too (Disco Ladies, Euro Disco, Gay Disco, Disco Exotica, etc.)
