We Angelenos don't need backpacks.

Honestly I'm surprised when I see people out wearing socks

one thing I've always complained about re: backpacks is that they don't look enough like kevlar vests; finally someone gets it

three years pass...

I inherited this Swiss Gear backpack from my kid last year and thankfully one of the main zippers has shit the bed. I hated this goddamn thing so much.

I think the secret is to buy sporty backpacks ie ones specifically made by athletic brands, like I have two identical adidas backpacks that I really love & I think are p fly

johnny crunch, Friday, 14 October 2016 12:20 (seven years ago) link

I need external water bottle pockets, but I don't really need any other kind of pocket, is my deal. I carry a book or two, a small lunch, and over-ear headphones. Sometimes some paperwork.

how's life, Friday, 14 October 2016 12:26 (seven years ago) link

Whereas my current Jansport doesn't have enough different pockets. There is no such thing as enough different pockets for me.

i like the look of these, though they are aggressively trendy and expensive

jason waterfalls (gbx), Friday, 14 October 2016 16:20 (seven years ago) link

those look ok and less than what i just spent. :|

the strap on my giant digital-dj backpack ripped in two, and duct tape is only working to hold it together temporarily. i'm not going to sew it together right now, i don't have the time or the stuff or the skills. i really should learn how to do that. anyway i ordered a new backpack from amazon yesterday. it took two hours of looking and caused way too much anxiety. there are a lot of ugly-ass bags out there. i ended up spending $50 more that i don't really have on a travel/gym under armour bag instead of going for the really inexpensive stuff with brand names like Vitalismo and Kaka.

it's got that under armour bro-core thing going on but i feel somewhat more confident i'll be happy with it

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 05:47 (seven years ago) link

oh god yeah, why are running trainers so horrible-looking? I'd love a pair of kix I can run in that don't look like some sort of 80s-futurist neon nightmare.

i have one of those in a slightly different model - i liked it a lot more in the pics online than when it arrived, it was way bigger than it looked and i learned a lesson to check the size of a bag by measurement. ended up abandoning it and will prob sell it.

one of the good things about LOL health goth is that it made sportswear look kind of sleek and stylish for all of 6 months. looks like we're back to dayglo bile now though

have to say some of this stuff is cool but other shit looks like those free reusable bags that are made of recycled plastic

marcos, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 15:14 (seven years ago) link

kind of remind of that trend in puffy down jackets that look like shiny black trashbags

marcos, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 15:15 (seven years ago) link

oh for sure, the appeal is mostly utilitarian -- they're waterproof and p much indestructible

yeah it's not like you couldn't wear black sportswear before whatever dl's interpretation of "health goth" existed or afterwards.
