Am I sick in the head? I really like that Natasha Bedingfield song!

I heard it today at my daughter's kiddie gym, and remembered I heard it months ago and loved it then. And I still love it. Very sweet song, and perhaps brilliant. So what's the deal? Was this an '04 song, or is it '05? Why is it suddenly getting played in America? Is it on some soundtrack?

The video is starting to gets lots of US airplay. On VH1 and other channels as well.

I don't have cable. But it made me stop what I was doing and listen (at least until my daughter screeched like a dinosaur and demanded to be held upright so she could "walk" around the play gym some more).

I find something hypnotic and touching about the song. It's the polar opposite of "Are You That Somebody?" but something about it has grabbed onto me the same way.

Maybe tomorrow, I will hate it. But today, it's lovely.

At a rough stab in the dark, I'm guessing the label didn't want to send it over to the states whilst Tash Bedders didn't have the time to promote it properly. She's on the traditional Busted/Robbie Williams/Lostprophets "time off to break America" excursion over here anyway.

I liked this one when it was on the radio!!!! The lyrics about how hard it is to write lyrics!!!! And because it's hard, the lyrics are clunky and any old crap is chucked in to fill up the verses!!!!! And they admit it!!!!! And it doesn't matter, because that's the way it supposed to be anyway!!!!! And therefore it's both a brilliant description and illustration of the subject matter!!!!!

Oh, and the tune's quite catchy as well.

That would explain those strange faces he pulls.

Am I the only one who hasn't admitted til now that he really, really, likes "Unwritten"?

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I might have missed this being mentioned above , but one of the songwriters for "These Words" (and the main guy behind Bedingfield) is Steve Kipner (also partly responsible for "Physical", "Genie In A Bottle") who's one of my heroes from the 60's and 70's (back when he was doing fake Bee Gees stuff). Not surprising that his new protege would be somewhat interesting...

Did this single get rereleased? I definitely heard it on MTV a good two years ago. Her brother is still better though...for doing a cover of Peter Gunn on his album.

Didn't know it was the same writer as "Genie In a Bottle", which is still the only decent single ever released by Christina Aguilera.

"Not Givin' Up" should be in my top singles of 2007 list. It's starting to surpass "Babies."

This is so funny. I was planning to start a thread with a title like this, but about this song, which I seem to hear every time I'm in a convenience store or sandwich shop.

Never unhappy to hear this pop up in any grocery or thrift store. Just my kind of glossy summer cheese.

I only know Pocketful of Sunshine because I played those Dance Dance Revolution games and Natasha Bedingfield mustve had some contract with them because every edition of the game had some shitty NBeds song on it

kinder, Saturday, 7 July 2018 15:07 (five years ago) link

I only know it from Easy A. It's classic for that.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Saturday, 7 July 2018 15:25 (five years ago) link
