I think there's a lot of love for wings on ilx, so it could still show.

bentelec -- thanks for making that playlist!

oh yes, wings, another from my list i've not seen yet. A list of incorrect things....

Cellar Door 2 months ago
the greatest song ever written. Blah blah, Hey Jude, blah blah Like A Rolling Stone, blah blah Stairway to Heaven, blah blah Purple Haze, blah blah Sympathy for the Devil, blah blah Heard it on the Grapevine, blah blah White Rabbit

Mark E Smith wakes up can't find a belt, goes out, comes home, lights blown, no bulbs, 8 MINUTES LONG!

Pay attention Ed Sheeran and the rest of you singer-songwritter twats with your 'social commentary' this is how you pen lyrics.

New Puritans, Hip Priest, and Winter... now we're talking.

add in Garden and that's half my top 8

an extraordinary four songs' worth of art. and they're all going to be in the top 10! :D

I gave a hefty number of points (#3) to "Wings" too. Sounds like it might be a contender. "Rowche" and "Voxish" brings me to 12/20 of my ballot making it already. I might be Mr Consensus Picks to an even greater extent than usual.

Thanks for the Spotify playlist, bentelec!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

i don't see new puritan making it.

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:49 (eleven years ago) link

It's funny, but I was looking at the songs mentioned tonight, and there's one I'm thinking "um, that might have actually got no votes at all!"

I'm not at my source spreadsheet so I can't say for certain, but.

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:51 (eleven years ago) link

creep?

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

I'm not entertaining guesses, cough cough...

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

could be look, know or lay of the land or

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:55 (eleven years ago) link

oh alright, it was creep.

Any way, lots of good stuff to come tomorrow....

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:56 (eleven years ago) link

Creep, huh? That's pretty surprising. It's a pretty good song, but I certainly didn't ever consider voting for it.

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:58 (eleven years ago) link

I preferred Hey Luciani from that era, but I'm not expecting that to make top 10.

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

Don't recall hearing "Weather Report 2" before today. Now realising I should probably have paid more attention to YFOC generally.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:24 (eleven years ago) link

it's really good!

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:29 (eleven years ago) link

it's amazing. as said upthread I'm really regretting leaving Mexico Wax Solvent off my rushed ballot - it'd probably be in the top 15. but yeah the whole album is probably the loosest, rangiest, Krautiest thing they've done other than PBL, and it has no real weak spots. plus Weather Report 2 is just utterly beautiful

have a nice Blog (imago), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

Streaming most of it now, it does indeed sound solid! Boy, is my face red.

Speaking of slow-burning album-closers, I was under the impression "Disney's Dream Debased" was widely beloved. Not top 10 material but...

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:53 (eleven years ago) link

Am kicking myself for forgetting Disney Dream Debased

I'm sorry I said anything (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 23:47 (eleven years ago) link

Disney's Dream Debased just was crowded off my ballot as much as I like song.

righteousmaelstrom, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 01:12 (eleven years ago) link

Reading this talk about Wings is making me optimistic!

righteousmaelstrom, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 01:12 (eleven years ago) link

unless the aforementioned lay of the land places - i don't think it will - that means no bulbs is the only wonderful and frightening track to place. i have a disliking for no bulbs, mostly thanks to its position at the end of the cd. coming after the lovely disney's dream debased it's quite jarring ... and then draaaaags on.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 01:26 (eleven years ago) link

Well, no bulbs is a bonus track. DDD should be the last track.

And no bulbs is amazing! The highest brix-era track on my ballot, I think

herr doktor (askance johnson), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 01:37 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i know it was tacked on the end but i think for most people the cd tracklistings for the beggars albums *are* the albums. i can enjoy no bulbs out of that context.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 01:50 (eleven years ago) link

nah, i always think of no bulbs as being a call for escape route track. 3 versions! two for the pricea! w slang king and draygo!

shit, that's far and away my favorite fall record, and i didn't even vote for it :(

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 01:55 (eleven years ago) link

FWIW, No Bulbs was on the original US vinyl of W&F. I always thought it made a good opening to side 2 (which is where it was when I first heard it). Bummed that Bug Day didn't make the cut.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 02:18 (eleven years ago) link

It's a bit sad. I can imagine happily including almost any of these W&FTOTF-and-associated tracks in a top thirty ("Oh! Brother" too). That old 16-track CD issue is surely amongst my most played discs. As it is I only squeezed "Disney" in.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 03:17 (eleven years ago) link

W&FWOTF rather.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 03:19 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, i placed it second on my albums ballot. it's the album that took me the longest to get into though. i had the cassette originally, and all those tracks were just *too much* to take in.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 04:04 (eleven years ago) link

i'd forgotten the love for no bulbs.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 04:15 (eleven years ago) link

so nice that every track from that album got a vote there. I was the lone vote there for "Stephen Song", which just barely missed my ballot here (yet I put "No Bulbs" on this time, go figure).

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 04:20 (eleven years ago) link

and like dlp the US PVC LP version of this is what I fell in love with initially, the cassette came later.

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 04:22 (eleven years ago) link

argh "this" being Wonderful & Frightening" etc., g'night.

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 04:22 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I got W&Fetc on cassette, and No Bulbs is um in the middle I think.

You know, I post one, with a nice pic of tangential relevance, we have a bit of a chat about it, and 30 mins later I post another one.

Ha! Was literally just now listening to that song. Which version's better? They both are. I SWEAR

Was also listening to this one earlier. Introduced my wife to it and Garden in excited anticipation. She declared that she was starting to think that 'The Fall are geniuses'. Where Garden is paranoid incantation, this is declamatory steamroller.

Mark G, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 09:47 (eleven years ago) link

aw, looks like none of my votes will make the top 5 :(

(unless Paintwork does, although I'm now banking on that being #7)

Kinda nice that they're all together in one glorious place though
