alright, six of my picks! Older Lover is TOO LOW, yes.

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 17:35 (eleven years ago) link

14. Rowche Rumble
13. Gut of the Quantifier
11. No Bulbs

that's my shit right here. bulbs got the second slot on my ballot (beam me up white man), and rowche went top 10. didn't vote for gut, but i should have. a masseuse with hands of ripe cement.

"And he's gonna make an appearance..."
I'm sure THAT will be top 10, but I'm beginning to wonder about non-appearances. A lot of Hex (The Classical, Iceland, Winter, Nazis), plus Look, Know, Elastic Man, Totally Wired; the incredible New Puritan, more from the first 2 albums (No Xmas... found talking to the cigarette machine???), Slates (Fit and Working, Leave the Capitol). No room to live for all of them...

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:33 (eleven years ago) link

12 of my 20 have placed already, and some others on my ballot are surely still to come. I'm not sure what the top 10 will contain -- hip priest, totally wired, ????

xp

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:34 (eleven years ago) link

enjoying the unpredictability here tbh

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:39 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah, hip priest, the classical, elastic man & tot wired all on solid lock. new puritan, fit & working, no x-mas seem like reasonable guesses. new face in hell, repetition, industrial enstate? plus there's this one big undropped shoe.

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:45 (eleven years ago) link

Creep hasn't placed yet right?

brad palsy (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

Id say Lay of the Land, Hip Priest, Classical, Damo SuUki, My New House, Spoilt, Totally wired all locks. Be cool if Elastic Man, Winter, and Leave the Capitol made it

I'm sorry I said anything (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:56 (eleven years ago) link

Paintwork is a likely lock

I'm sorry I said anything (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:58 (eleven years ago) link

Garden has to be in the mix surely.

you're going home in a crispy ambulance (cajunsunday), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 18:59 (eleven years ago) link

Lay of the Land, Damo Suzuki, My New House, Elastic Man

― I'm sorry I said anything (Drugs A. Money)

duh, yeah, these are way more likely than most of my suggestions. you should see my new house.

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 19:13 (eleven years ago) link

six of mine have placed:

marquis
container drivers
jawbone
eat y'self fitter
deer park
#1 the n.w.r.a.

i have another eight or so i expect to show but who knows? i thought no bulbs was a minor track and am surprised it's placed so high.

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 19:17 (eleven years ago) link

I supposed there's no chance backdrop will place, which is sad. My #7.

Also, if new puritan doesn't place I will reach into my computer and destroy ilx.

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 19:19 (eleven years ago) link

New Puritans, Hip Priest, and Winter... now we're talking.

My New House and Spoilt VC weren't even on my first run-through of 40 tracks.

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 19:39 (eleven years ago) link

My new house top 5 for me. One of the definitive fall joints ime.

brad palsy (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

top 10 for me, but yeah

i can't be the only person who makes a point of playing that whenever i move?

You are not! It is what got me into this band in the first place; 15 years ago later or thereabouts and it is still lodged in my head.

bentelec, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:05 (eleven years ago) link

Lol I made a the fall spotify mix for la lechera a couple of weeks ago and put mnh first because it is top fall and catchy and arresting to boot and only later did I realize it was also a perfect opener bc she is in the middle moving!

brad palsy (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

Middle OF moving

WilliamC: Does this work? Have not tried to share Spotify playlists yet, but this is mine (some Peel versions substituted for album versions).

bentelec, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:15 (eleven years ago) link

do people rate wings? one of my favorites which i'm wondering will even show now.

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

I think there's a lot of love for wings on ilx, so it could still show.

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

bentelec -- thanks for making that playlist!

Cellar Door 2 months ago
the greatest song ever written. Blah blah, Hey Jude, blah blah Like A Rolling Stone, blah blah Stairway to Heaven, blah blah Purple Haze, blah blah Sympathy for the Devil, blah blah Heard it on the Grapevine, blah blah White Rabbit

Mark E Smith wakes up can't find a belt, goes out, comes home, lights blown, no bulbs, 8 MINUTES LONG!

Pay attention Ed Sheeran and the rest of you singer-songwritter twats with your 'social commentary' this is how you pen lyrics.

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

If Iceland does not place I will walk out into the snow, Capt Oates style....

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 20:52 (eleven years ago) link

New Puritans, Hip Priest, and Winter... now we're talking.

add in Garden and that's half my top 8

an extraordinary four songs' worth of art. and they're all going to be in the top 10! :D

have a nice Blog (imago), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:25 (eleven years ago) link

I gave a hefty number of points (#3) to "Wings" too. Sounds like it might be a contender. "Rowche" and "Voxish" brings me to 12/20 of my ballot making it already. I might be Mr Consensus Picks to an even greater extent than usual.

Thanks for the Spotify playlist, bentelec!

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

i don't see new puritan making it.

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:49 (eleven years ago) link

It's funny, but I was looking at the songs mentioned tonight, and there's one I'm thinking "um, that might have actually got no votes at all!"

I'm not at my source spreadsheet so I can't say for certain, but.

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:51 (eleven years ago) link

creep?

fit and working again, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

could be look, know or lay of the land or

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:55 (eleven years ago) link

oh alright, it was creep.

Any way, lots of good stuff to come tomorrow....

Mark G, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:56 (eleven years ago) link

Creep, huh? That's pretty surprising. It's a pretty good song, but I certainly didn't ever consider voting for it.

herr doktor (askance johnson), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:58 (eleven years ago) link

I preferred Hey Luciani from that era, but I'm not expecting that to make top 10.

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:00 (eleven years ago) link

Don't recall hearing "Weather Report 2" before today. Now realising I should probably have paid more attention to YFOC generally.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:24 (eleven years ago) link

it's really good!

Flat Of NAGLs (sleeve), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:29 (eleven years ago) link

it's amazing. as said upthread I'm really regretting leaving Mexico Wax Solvent off my rushed ballot - it'd probably be in the top 15. but yeah the whole album is probably the loosest, rangiest, Krautiest thing they've done other than PBL, and it has no real weak spots. plus Weather Report 2 is just utterly beautiful

have a nice Blog (imago), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:38 (eleven years ago) link

Streaming most of it now, it does indeed sound solid! Boy, is my face red.

Speaking of slow-burning album-closers, I was under the impression "Disney's Dream Debased" was widely beloved. Not top 10 material but...

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:53 (eleven years ago) link

Am kicking myself for forgetting Disney Dream Debased

I'm sorry I said anything (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 23:47 (eleven years ago) link

Disney's Dream Debased just was crowded off my ballot as much as I like song.
