btw brad you will be completely unsurprised to learn that i have written favorably about that Seether song (and compared the chorus to Republica's "Ready To Go")

oh and i posted it here b/c i keep hearing it on the alt rock radio station, altho to my ears it could just as well fit in the rolling pop thread

dyl, Friday, 24 May 2013 07:47 (ten years ago) link

dyl, Friday, 24 May 2013 07:47 (ten years ago) link

yeah it's def primarily an alt radio hit but it'll prob cross over soon enough.

lotta terrible new acts on the rock charts these days, can't keep Capital Cities and The Neighborhood and New Politics straight

two months pass...

Anything new here worth paying attention to?

curmudgeon, Monday, 29 July 2013 22:22 (ten years ago) link

The Neighborhood's "Sweater Weather" and Muse's "Panic Station" are my favorites so far this year. Atlas Genius's new one better than their first hit also.

some dude, Monday, 29 July 2013 22:30 (ten years ago) link

thanks

oi, modern rock listeners:

i never listen to modern rock radio anymore, so i have no idea about this. on the harder end of modern rock programming, would vocals like this (the hoarse growling ones, not the sung ones)

http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2013/06/mouth-of-the-architect-dawning/

place the music as 'abrasive' or relatively normal? they seem pretty polite to me but a lot of the sounds here are otherwise kind of modern-rock-ready (snare sound, sung vocals, anthemic dynamics)

xps OH! So that's what Capital Cities sounds like. I have a friend who talks about them a lot, and now I know I shouldn't listen to her anymore.

Capital Cities just entered the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 this week. Why are they considered alt rock again? They just sound like pure dance pop to me. Have you heard their covers of "Nothing Compares 2 U" an "Holiday" ?

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 8 August 2013 17:43 (ten years ago) link

Well I never quite understood how Sinead O Connor's Nothing Compares 2U was alt rock either.

MarkoP, Thursday, 8 August 2013 18:17 (ten years ago) link
