Is there something that sorta resembles them but better quality that you know of? They just did a polka dot one for Madewell and it's SO CUTE. I want it.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:14 (eleven years ago) link

But, yeah, they're kinda expensive for what they are, I think.

i didnt read any of the posts in this thread but i like backpacks a lot, because you can put stuff in them and carry them around while keeping your hands free

they are not that aesthetically pleasing though i guess thats the downside... but what upside!

Reggie (Lamp), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

x-post - I'm into the daypack but they need more colors or dots or something. They're all very manly. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I think they should branch out a little or something.

herschels remind me of outdoor products backpacks which are super big among teens in hk http://i.imgur.com/Ja5bzfY.jpg

乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:19 (eleven years ago) link

Oh! I like those a lot. And they look more adult than herschels somehow which is good.

also one time i was at a karaoke night for a friend's birthday and this kinda overweight nerdy kid sang something really jammy for karaoke while wearing his black canvas backpack and it made me really happy because he looked like such a dork and he seemed like he just dngaf and then later that night i was getting out of a cab to go to a party and i saw that same kid still wearing his backpack and invited him up to the party and told him that i liked his backpack and then apologized for calling him 'backpack' but then the girls who's place it was was really mad at me cuz it turned out this kid looked like he was like 15 and it was supposed to be a cool drug party or w/e and he was obv really uncomfortable w/the whole scene so i had to get him to leave after his first drink but he didnt seem to mind that much

anyway the moral of the story is that backpacks are so cool that they can get you invited to parties but also asked to leave parties

MAKR stuff is pretty good & well made & nicely designed but also just... kinda bland, imo? like why not use a color that's not a tasteful neutral, at all, ever

this is the backpack i have. i carry it around in a similar fashion except instead of being loosely held by the strap its usually slung across my back with both straps over my shoulders

i mostly only use that one in the summers though cuz i use my bike a lot more since its been so cold wet i carry my stuff around in my messenger bag

Reggie (Lamp), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:30 (eleven years ago) link

beige and grey are good colours for backpacks cause they go w everything

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:31 (eleven years ago) link

This is true but I also like color.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:32 (eleven years ago) link

u cant have any sry

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:36 (eleven years ago) link

a friend of mine recently got this backpack, which i admired:

http://jonathanandolivia.com/images/GREG-BACKPACK-RED-4303P.jpg

i am kinda surprised by how many thoughts i have about backpacks, which always seemed like the overnight bag's younger, less glamorous brother but maybe backpacks are kinda stylish. its just that its a lot harder to be cool when you're wearing one i guess unlike that suede overnight bag you casually tossed into the backseat of your convertible or w/e

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

This thread is making me look for a new messenger bag, my old one is held together by safety pins and still has blood on it (tbh those things are both awesome, I just want a new bag).

i have this one: http://www.castlebergoutdoors.co.uk/acatalog/23510-031-1.jpg and my girlfriend seems to get complimented every time she uses it

diamonddave85, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

i like the idea of describing backpacks in terms of how many liters they hold, that is really something. alternate idea though: how many exterior zippers they have e.g. this guy well hes a regular daypack, you know like seven zippers. but this guy i just use for hiking remote trails in the mountains of lost zembla and its got like thirty-three of 'em so cool

bags can def be addictive

ues for lyfe

Reggie (Lamp), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

i see it on camera forums - people searching for the 'perfect camera bag' and they end up with like 20 diff camera bags

乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

still no perfect one? my domke is started to develop some holes.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

I've got a vaguely ugly orange LL Bean backpack from some time in the early 2000s and I love it - perfect size, chest strap, built in camelback slot, long enough for my giant torso, and the thing just won't die. I haul my laptop, pyrex lunch container, and various books, electronic components, tools or hardware, gym clothes, and all sorts of shit on a daily basis on foot or by motorcycle and can't imagine using anything else. I actually fear the day that it wears out as I'll be sad trying to find a replacement. No laptop holder but I have a padded Chrome case that works just fine inside it.

I don't care how tacky it might look or how unhip it is - it works, fits under airline seats, and holds everything I need comfortably.

joygoat, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

well i settled on the domke shoulder one, and i just bought a lowepro backpack for medium format stuff xp

乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 17:09 (eleven years ago) link

I thought domke was supposed to be invincible :(

jansport still makes this bag:
