And streams from the rest?

Officer Electro-Dribble (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 February 2009 14:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Mainly seems to be the biggest metal labels that are doing streams in my experience

am I selling cardamom or am I selling thyme (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 12 February 2009 15:45 (fifteen years ago) link

UK vs US difference?

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Torche in the ILX albums poll at no 26 btw(with 3 no1 votes).
Sadly it looks like Harvey Milk may have missed out.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I ranked the Harvey Milk much higher than the Torche - 6th vs. 17th. That might help it, but I'm afraid you're probably right.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:49 (fifteen years ago) link

i didn't rank my list, and voted for both of them, so its still possible.

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:51 (fifteen years ago) link

I'd be surprised if it beat it. I guess Boris & Earth and Torche have more crossover appeal. *shakes fist @ Pitchfork*

But you never know, if it's going to make it, it will be in the next few. But Torche got 3 #1s. Cant see Harvey Milk getting that.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Kerrang doesn't cover any of these bands. Isis dont get a look in either or Pelican. If hey did im sure these bands could be quite successful. Guess you have to be on a major label to get in it.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:59 (fifteen years ago) link

so pitchfork >>> Kerrang is sadly true.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 12 February 2009 21:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I think Pitchfork gave Harvey Milk a nod in their best new music section and a high score btw.

cheese and other good things (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 12 February 2009 22:06 (fifteen years ago) link

They haven't become as well known as the others. Just seems strange that obv the ppl who voted for them here didn't vote on that poll. It was well clear of the Boris and Earth on this poll.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 00:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Considering how odd the actual list is, and the fact that waaaaaaay more people voted in it than this list, I don't think you can write off, well, pretty much anything to place. thanks for the grouper btw, it's really pretty actually, not what i expected.

cheese and other good things (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 February 2009 00:08 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah crystal castles just charted with zero #1 votes so i am oddly optimistic about harvey milk.

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Friday, 13 February 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago) link

actually if i am doing the math right, between the three people who have mentioned voting for it on this thread we contributed 44 points to its total, so if there are others out there we only need 70 points or so (which wait is probably not all that promising). eh, hope springs eternal.

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Friday, 13 February 2009 01:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Wish I could share your optimism. I bet it was no51.
You think Marnie Stern will make it? Or are the only ilxors who like her are metal fans? LOL @ the irony.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 01:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I voted Marnie Stern lower than I should have. Pretty certain she won't make it though.

i'm getting too old for this ship (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 February 2009 01:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I voted for Esoteric quite high when really I should have voted tactically with stuff i thought might get in it at the top. but then that wasnt the point of a list.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 01:27 (fifteen years ago) link

No more metal in the poll. Marnie Stern hasn't even made it. Only metallers on ILX like her it seems!

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 14 February 2009 00:02 (fifteen years ago) link

The missing Harvey Milk is still too o_O though.

raaaaaaaaaah (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 14 February 2009 00:03 (fifteen years ago) link

by which you mean "not terribly surprising" - great album tho

contenderizer, Saturday, 14 February 2009 07:09 (fifteen years ago) link

But it is surprising as it was no2 in this poll, well clear of Earth and Boris, who beat them in the main poll. Obv some of it's main backers here didn't vote in the main poll. Resulting in less metal in the 2008 poll than 2007.
At least with this metal poll it raised the HM and other bands profiles with lots of people now checking out the results.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 14 February 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Glenn are you doing stats on the other poll?

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:05 (fifteen years ago) link

No, I'm done with poll stats for now. On to other things!

glenn mcdonald, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Aww that's a pity. Got something else in the works for us, Glenn?

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

I bought the Nachtmystium lp from Avalanche in Glasgow today. Monorail had sold out of it(and their older stuff I had seen in there before xmas).

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Also found out Earth are playing in April. You up for it, Grimly/Onimo?

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 22:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I forgot to say it's at Nice N Sleazys

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 17 February 2009 00:44 (fifteen years ago) link

You guys read this yet?

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 19 February 2009 22:35 (fifteen years ago) link

definitely up for earth at sleazys. missed the stereo date last year...saw them at supersonic, but they were unfortunately timetabled in the early evening 'severely flagging from 18 BPM doom overload' slot. I mean, I love earth, but a kick up the arse they most assuredly are not.

be strange seeing them somewhere as small as sleazys though. every other time, their sound has filled a huge space - scala, islington academy, custard factory. they're too widescreen for that basement.

Bump for fun!

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 23:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I predict No Line on the Horizon Preinterpreted landslide on the 2009 edition.

Vulgar Display of Flowers (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 02:03 (fifteen years ago) link

was that a bump to annoy grady?

Pfunkboy in blood drenched rabbit suit jamming in the woods (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

No, I bumped it because I missed it and it should never be forgotten. Good times were had here.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 16:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Ahh, well Im bumping it to annoy him ;)

Wonder if there will be interest for a poll next year?

why wouldn't there be?
(and where is Grady, anyhow?)

51 SBs and there's nothing on (Ioannis), Saturday, 7 March 2009 09:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Mastodon ftw, tho, no?

51 SBs and there's nothing on (Ioannis), Saturday, 7 March 2009 09:09 (fifteen years ago) link

well, it was a bit of a hassle getting enough people to vote so the novelty might've worn off next year.

two weeks pass...

any front runners for 2009 yet?

Cobalt I assume. Personally, I hate the vocalist, which is a real shame because I love the music.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 March 2009 01:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Cobalt wont pick up crossover votes for an ILM poll though, as awesome as the album is.

I haven't heard much with crossover appeal - Tombs? Amoseurs? The upcoming Mastodon?

None really do anything for me. It hasn't been a real metal year for me thus far.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 March 2009 01:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Amesoeurs possibly. Going to be interesting on how the Mastodon is received. Could do well crossover-wise but metal purists hate it.

Steely Dan is more metal than Cynic.

i, grey, Monday, 23 March 2009 07:11 (fifteen years ago) link

The Gnaw album is the best metal record, by which TBH I mean 'noise record featuring metal luminaries', I've heard this year. Not at all a frontrunner but might scrape a nominal top 50 if enough ppl hear it, which they should

some dude's gizmo (DJ Mencap), Monday, 23 March 2009 10:57 (fifteen years ago) link

My top metal album so far this year is Jamie Saft's Black Shabbis. I also liked that Lamb of God, and the new Mastodon.

Mordy, Monday, 23 March 2009 10:59 (fifteen years ago) link

I have the Gnaw vinyl, it's great.
Khanate album should do well too, it's the best thing they've done since the 1st album, pity it took dubin 3 years to do the vocals so they split up and wont tour it.

slim pickings so far

tombs is all right, buried inside is better but no real surprises in it, lord mantis the only thing I've heard that made me sit up & take notice really

Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter (J0hn D.), Monday, 23 March 2009 11:22 (fifteen years ago) link

lord mantis at 7:30 a.m. is pretty fucking bracing though I gotta say, this'll make my overall year-end

Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter (J0hn D.), Monday, 23 March 2009 11:33 (fifteen years ago) link

New Mastodon in the running for next years poll then?
