telegraph has gone to the top of the s.e.o. charts in the UK so they must be doing something right - i assume those keywords are compiled by a word-crunching bot of some kind, maybe using opencalais

i was listening to the "now til 69" remix last night and stirmonster's "horrible digital sheen" comment came to mind. it really was kind of nauseating! it was an mp3, but even on top of that it sounded weirdly compressed and despite listening to the song about 20 times or so in the past i had never noticed the production (probably because i was paying attention to everything else or nothing at all cuz it's so anthemic). the drums have this kind of rushy ableton feel to them.

tricky, Thursday, 12 February 2009 14:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Ha that sounds right actually. The Shortwave Set remix is either astonishing or vaguely repellent depending on one's mood.

"horrible digital sheen"...it really was kind of nauseating!

yeah but like b/c of the structure it feels earned to me, same as when jlc did it well--i feel prepped for it and am ready to open up to the blatant too-much-of-a-muchness & also am ok with flirting with nausea (kind of like an...opiate high? urgh dont mean to bring drugs into this)

W i l l, Friday, 27 February 2009 16:12 (fifteen years ago) link

it's like an opiate high - on acid!

ledge, Friday, 27 February 2009 16:13 (fifteen years ago) link

an opiate high on acid wrapped in bacon

i don't mind a bit of gross synthetic-ness, but maybe not for an entire set. i burned out on that shortwave set mix pretty quickly, it sounded great on the RA podcast but it seems a bit redundant on its own. 'paris' and 'williams blood' still stand up though.

resident advice whore (haitch), Saturday, 28 February 2009 04:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Feel the same way about the Shortwave Set mix actually! But they're worth seeing live (and are not syntheticky throughout - speaking of which they really need to get out that Lindstrom & Solale remix to prove they can work in materials other than plastic and polyester).

One hears that Aeroplane have done the covermount CD for April's Mixmag... it's not in the shops yet, though.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 00:24 (fifteen years ago) link

did god only knows get a release (or a clean MP3) yet? i think i have worn out my copy of the mp3 max ripped.

caek, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 02:22 (fifteen years ago) link

haven't seen anything on the various record store mailouts - no doubt it'll be a hyped record if it does get pressed up by someone.

shall look out for that mixmag disc; the various sets of theirs that i've heard have been pretty tight. they also avoid the trap of sounding too synthetic all the way through, as tim says - looks like i was having a go at them upthread but i'm more worried about those who'll play sets entirely composed of hi-gloss balearic revivalism, it'll be like dudes who jumped exclusively on the ed banger/kitsune jock, bleurgh.

resident advice whore (haitch), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 02:39 (fifteen years ago) link

For those not in the UK you should be able to find it online fairly easily

groovypanda, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm actually slightly disappointed with this mix as I think I already have two thirds of those tracks. This feels more like a mixtape than an actual mix as the transitions between tracks are usually quite sudden.

That Mylo track is quite nice though

groovypanda, Thursday, 26 March 2009 12:02 (fifteen years ago) link

so, just why do cows love dance music ?
its something i have always wondered about.
guess, i'll have to buy this to find out the answer.

mark e, Thursday, 26 March 2009 12:43 (fifteen years ago) link

xp. yeah definitely feels more like a showcase than a mix. still, all good tracks. loving all the lovelock stuff i've heard btw.

or something, Thursday, 26 March 2009 12:58 (fifteen years ago) link

lol @ the cover

s1ocki, Thursday, 26 March 2009 14:58 (fifteen years ago) link

So this is worth buying just for the mix? I don't have any of those tunes apart from Paris, Seb Tellier and House of House.

davek_00, Thursday, 26 March 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Definitely worth buying - I mean, Mixmag is only £4 or something and it's nice to have some of these tunes in CD quality rather than MP3 (Although I've no idea what 'quality' these cover CDs are compared to say a commercial release. For all I know Aeroplane may have sent Mixmag an MP3 of the mix in the first place)

groovypanda, Thursday, 26 March 2009 15:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds like full CD quality to me! And £4.20 very well spent - this is a superb, intensely pleasurable mix. LOVE LOVE LOVE the House Of House track...

mike t-diva, Friday, 27 March 2009 15:03 (fifteen years ago) link

havent picked up this mix yet but yeah that house of house track is amazing

US dates still up on their myspace, no mention of cancellations anywhere it seems

also: googling "aeroplane canceled" somehow doesn't primarily turn up information on the belgian nu-balearic duo, i wonder why is this the case?

mikebee (BATTAGS), Friday, 17 April 2009 22:38 (fourteen years ago) link

i saw them at medusa in l.a. on wednesday! it was really fun, but i was too drunk and i'm not obsessive enough to comment on track selection, though i'm pretty familiar with all of their stuff and their mixes. big cheers for 'paris,' obviously. played the sebastian tellier remix, too. it was just one half of aeroplane, the smaller of the two of them and he seemed quite accomplished with transitions and whatnot. apparently they are also playing at anthem magazine's pool party tomorrow, adjacent to coachella, which i just so happened to get lucky enough to snag wristbands for.

If this means that they're concentrating on finishing the album and getting it out asap then I hope the Americans will consider this taking one for the team.
