Makes sense. I hear it on R&B radio at least three times a week on mornings #proud

mig continues making otherwise boring rap&B songs worth hearing:

i really like "power trip" a lot

i like that Miguel makes the most of his tiny half-chorus on that song by singing a distinctly different take each time

A friend recently pointed out the "Kaleidoscope Dream" sample is from the same song used in "My Name Is."
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 15:24 (eleven years ago) link
Also I know this has been discussed on the Kendrick thread but phrases like "the new classics" or "future classics" have been hugely bothering me.
― billstevejim, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 15:26 (eleven years ago) link
oh i thought it was directly from "my name is" (didn't realize that "my name is" sampled any other song), good to know

they're on the cover of vibe (or digital vibe) with the tagline NEW CLASSICS

“How Many Drinks Remix (feat. Kendrick Lamar)?”
excellently-placed q mark
unfortunately the answer is no
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:36 (eleven years ago) link
lol at "pool full of liquor then we dive... innit", is kendrick having pie & mash
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:38 (eleven years ago) link
Could have been worse. Lamar's verse is pretty unobtrusive, and he adds a nice little hook in the middle there. Better than the Wiz/Big Sean/B.o.B alternatives
― Evan R, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:39 (eleven years ago) link
The "Swimming Pools" callback feels cheap and self-celebratory though
would have seemed silly not to really
not three times however
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:44 (eleven years ago) link
Ha. I like the Kendrick remix.
― longneck, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:44 (eleven years ago) link
As is the case with the retconned "BDKMV" remix, I think it would have been a lot funnier if they'd just dropped in the Jay-Z "Monster" verse.
"You look good, we came to party / But I don't wanna waste my time / Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Loch Ness / Goblin, ghoul, a zombie with no conscious..."
― Evan R, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:50 (eleven years ago) link
yeah this is not good
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 10 April 2013 21:56 (eleven years ago) link
remix actually makes me miss "that ass is colossal"

I liked the arrangement and delivery of "Adorn" on Saturday Night Live, but what was that 2nd number--r'n'b swithcing rapidly to rock and back with schlocky hair-metal guitar
― curmudgeon, Sunday, 14 April 2013 05:02 (eleven years ago) link
Oh, "How Many Drinks"

didn't those songs use to be in swing time?

That rock version clatters a bit in the last third, but, man, is his voice actually getting stronger each time out?

I kinda hated what the guitarist was doing during the first couple verses but everything else was fantastic

Stuck "Miguel snl" into twitter and saw many tweets from women hailing Miguel, many tweets from middle-aged white guys saying either who is Miguel or bashing his performance, and a fair amount of folks just saying "hey this guy is kinda like Prince."
― curmudgeon, Sunday, 14 April 2013 15:05 (eleven years ago) link
middle aged white guys surprisingly off tm, theyre usually so reliable :/

WTF @ "how many drinks" performance
― brony james (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 April 2013 02:23 (eleven years ago) link
i sort of love it, like "how many drinks" is a nice song but no one in 10 years was ever gonna be like oh man, i should track down his performance of "how many drinks" on SNL
― brony james (k3vin k.), Monday, 15 April 2013 02:24 (eleven years ago) link
dig it

But if someone only saw that version of "How Many Drinks" and had never heard "Adorn" I could see them not being convinced of Miguel's talent.

yeah but i mean it is cool when he goes on tv and wins over some of the kelly clarksons of the world -- album is still a ways from going gold, would be great if his fanbase keeps growing

i really like that he continues to experiment and stretch his songs into new shapes but i was making a screwface at him for most of that "how many drinks" performance
feels like a disappointing choice of single for several reasons in any case
― flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 15 April 2013 08:12 (eleven years ago) link
yeah but its got legs... i too would have liked to see an alterno version of 'do you'
― 乒乓, Monday, 15 April 2013 12:30 (eleven years ago) link
^^^ !!! not a big fan of "how many drinks", but i'd gladly take a bullet for "do you"
― I have many lovely lacy nightgowns (contenderizer), Monday, 15 April 2013 12:31 (eleven years ago) link
ha this performance is hilarious. would probably come off better as a cool surprise 50 minutes into a set, or even as a tag at the end of the "Adorn" performance, but hey it's SNL, he got two songs, he wanted to take a risk with the 2nd one, might as well do it there since he wouldn't get to on the Tonight Show or w/e.
― Rapper Boy (some dude), Monday, 15 April 2013 12:47 (eleven years ago) link
what would the radio version of "do you" be like... do u like dogs?
