(btw: most popular #1: Coldplay, with 21 users having listened to it the week of March 13; least popular #1: Broadcast, "I Found the F," with only 9 users last week)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:14 (eighteen years ago) link

This chart could be easily sabotaged if 20 of the non Annie/Vitalic/Coldplay listening ILXors conspired to all listen to a certain track one week.

Apparently if anybody wants to post to the group's journal page, the group's leader has to give them permissions, so if anybody does, post here and I'll try to figure out how it works.

last time i checked, the closest user in my network was jaymc with a whopping 6% match.

my name is john. i reside in chicago. (frankE), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 03:50 (eighteen years ago) link

brilliant. my closest has been my brother (robotsinlove) for a while, although i think alba was up there for a brief minute.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 August 2005 04:44 (eighteen years ago) link

I signed up and downloaded the plugin, and it's just not working at all. i'm on a Mac using iTunes but I can't figure out how to open iScrobbler and log in; I try double-clicking on iScrobbler but nothing happens. does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 11 August 2005 19:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I just started using this as well ... and only at work which kind of skews it.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 11 August 2005 21:32 (eighteen years ago) link

woo! all last.fm-y now. pretty, but SLOW innit?

the mac iscrobbler is a standalond app that works in the background - set it to be a startup item (i.e. it runs when you log in)

you should get a little "note" menu item top right, click it to get a menu, and open the preferences. enter your accoutn name and password.

I did that, but yet there is no note menu to be found. my computer hates me. (thanks anyway, alan, I appreciate the help!)

aaron d.g. (aaron d.g.), Thursday, 11 August 2005 22:02 (eighteen years ago) link

run activity monitor and see if the iScrobbler process is running. if it is then there's some display problem preventing the menu appearing - perhaps it's there but the font that has the note icon in it is not on your mac. if it isn't then there is something wrong with the iScrobbler app - i don't know perhaps you have tiger and it hasn't been updated for tiger??

The new Last.fm Player is excellent: http://www.last.fm/help/player/

You can type in the name of an artist, it'll suggest similar songs and you can stream them and skip the ones you don't like. Sort of like how last.fm used to work but now you don't have to keep the webpage open.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 12 August 2005 04:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Last FM is excellent when it works. Mac radio player is rubbish, though.

ALSO - no UKG or grime! for shame.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:08 (eighteen years ago) link

This week's ten:

1. Franz Ferdinand
2. Björk
3. Animal Collective
4. Belle and Sebastian
5. Ladytron
5. Radiohead
7. Boards of Canada
8. Goldfrapp
8. The Beatles
10. Gorillaz

In the tracks chart, nothing - apart from maybe Animal Collective - comes near the Franz Ferdinand song in terms of the amount of people playing it.

hahah "boards of canada" is in the top 10.

jmeister (jmeister), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 00:26 (eighteen years ago) link

seems to have speeded up a little, but I *hate* the way it uses a "here is all the info represented by shitty avatars" approach now.

looks like there isn't any way to delete your profile after all, and the "profile editor" doesn't work. I erased a bunch of artists to test it... still there weeks later. I can see how this 'tagging' thing might be useful (& expandable) but it seems like extra effort which for me is contrary to the idea of AS. And very much a tilt at appealing to Apple fans. I mean ID3 Tags + groups aren't already enough??

I dunno, this went from fun and mostly functional. To "really can't be bothered to use it anymore" with this overhaul. Even though it's far from a total write-off UI wise I think they have, at least partially, ballsed it up.

Everything just seems to take far, far longer to find that it used to. Even after getting familiar with it. And information that was previously on a single page (usefully)... now is separated! I love extra clicks! Were no lessons learnt from the AMG debacle??

Thoughts anyone?

Seems more stable to me, and refreshes more regularly. Annoyed that I can no longer see who's added me.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 3 September 2005 17:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, I agree, would have been nice. But I don't think it'd make much difference as I'm sure noone adds me anyway. ;-)

is that list for the ILM group? there is an ilm group, right?

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 12 September 2005 21:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes. I always find the tracks chart more interesting for some reason. Last week's #1 was Kanye West's "Roses." This week's top 15 is entirely made up of Boards of Canada tracks (with "Oscar See Through Red Eye" at #1), except for the new Franz Ferdinand single at #6.
