it's def not a desecration on the level of Wiz on "Adorn" but the way Kendrick bunts songs like "Fuckin' Problems" has me wary

Diddy-Drugs A. Money (some dude), Thursday, 28 March 2013 15:56 (eleven years ago) link

people love his "fuckin problems" verse

A$AP Rovi (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 28 March 2013 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

yeah I think its a solid verse

乒乓, Thursday, 28 March 2013 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

kendrick getting outrapped by asap is some "your bodyguard's oochie wallie verse better than yours" shit

cunnilingus ah um (The Reverend), Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

hah asap's verse is the 'kill' out of marry fuck kill on that song

乒乓, Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

you want dih dih???

cunnilingus ah um (The Reverend), Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

lmao

乒乓, Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

i'll never tell

乒乓, Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

there's not one hot line in the kendrick verse, it's all a bunch of half-hearted almost punchlines. people do like the weird way he says "dick" almost as much as the weird way he says "bitch," though.

lol xpost

cunnilingus ah um (The Reverend), Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:16 (eleven years ago) link

girl i'm kendrick lamar / a.k.a. volcanic to me is lahar

Diddy-Drugs A. Money (some dude), Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:28 (eleven years ago) link

pro tip: make kendrick's lamar a lot weirder by imagining him saying "pampers and threesomes tomorrow"

乒乓, Thursday, 28 March 2013 19:47 (eleven years ago) link

lol

Diddy-Drugs A. Money (some dude), Thursday, 28 March 2013 19:48 (eleven years ago) link

piss on em all, go potty in the hallway

Diddy-Drugs A. Money (some dude), Thursday, 28 March 2013 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

Has this remix come out yet?

Evan R, Thursday, 28 March 2013 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

nah only announced

Diddy-Drugs A. Money (some dude), Thursday, 28 March 2013 20:32 (eleven years ago) link

Stirred a lot of buzz for just an announcement. But anyway, Kendrick can't do worse by the song than Jay-Z did to the "BKMV" remix. Cautiously optimistic

Evan R, Thursday, 28 March 2013 20:33 (eleven years ago) link

lol kendrick is going to turn the song into another temperance movement anthem, isn't he

also lol

Evan R, Thursday, 28 March 2013 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

o_o

The Reverend, Friday, 5 April 2013 19:11 (eleven years ago) link

awesome. i had been low level sulking about the thought that we got like 16 mostly stellar solo tracks from him last year and would probably only get scattered features this year, happy to be proven wrong.

lol "Adorn" is BACK at #1 on r&b/hip-hop airplay after a few weeks of drifting to #2. the song has not left the top 3 once in the last 7 or 8 months.

the drummer for gay Daddy Yankee (some dude), Friday, 5 April 2013 23:31 (eleven years ago) link

wau

The Reverend, Friday, 5 April 2013 23:56 (eleven years ago) link

Makes sense. I hear it on R&B radio at least three times a week on mornings #proud

mig continues making otherwise boring rap&B songs worth hearing:

i really like "power trip" a lot

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 April 2013 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

i like that Miguel makes the most of his tiny half-chorus on that song by singing a distinctly different take each time

A friend recently pointed out the "Kaleidoscope Dream" sample is from the same song used in "My Name Is."

billstevejim, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 15:24 (eleven years ago) link

Also I know this has been discussed on the Kendrick thread but phrases like "the new classics" or "future classics" have been hugely bothering me.

oh i thought it was directly from "my name is" (didn't realize that "my name is" sampled any other song), good to know

wait what does that have to do w/ this thread, who said that itt?

some dude, Tuesday, 9 April 2013 20:30 (eleven years ago) link

they're on the cover of vibe (or digital vibe) with the tagline NEW CLASSICS

“How Many Drinks Remix (feat. Kendrick Lamar)?”

excellently-placed q mark

unfortunately the answer is no

r|t|c, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

lol at "pool full of liquor then we dive... innit", is kendrick having pie & mash

r|t|c, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:38 (eleven years ago) link

Could have been worse. Lamar's verse is pretty unobtrusive, and he adds a nice little hook in the middle there. Better than the Wiz/Big Sean/B.o.B alternatives

Evan R, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

The "Swimming Pools" callback feels cheap and self-celebratory though

Evan R, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

would have seemed silly not to really

not three times however

r|t|c, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

Ha. I like the Kendrick remix.

longneck, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

As is the case with the retconned "BDKMV" remix, I think it would have been a lot funnier if they'd just dropped in the Jay-Z "Monster" verse.

"You look good, we came to party / But I don't wanna waste my time / Sasquatch, Godzilla, King Kong, Loch Ness / Goblin, ghoul, a zombie with no conscious..."

Evan R, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 20:50 (eleven years ago) link

yeah this is not good

k3vin k., Wednesday, 10 April 2013 21:56 (eleven years ago) link

remix actually makes me miss "that ass is colossal"

some dude, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 23:29 (eleven years ago) link

I liked the arrangement and delivery of "Adorn" on Saturday Night Live, but what was that 2nd number--r'n'b swithcing rapidly to rock and back with schlocky hair-metal guitar
