In MVP 2004 I come out to Stellastarr - My Coco every godamn time. I wish there was some way to put your own music in the game.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 6 August 2004 16:48 (nineteen years ago) link

my pre-at-bat music is "Chocolate City", which is very confusing to everyone

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:31 (nineteen years ago) link

i'd totaly go with roots manuva's "witness the fitness"

dyson (dyson), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Some nice Dodger notes:

1B Hee Seop Choi - Unknown Korean Rap Song

Info from the Florida Marlins: On opening day, Hee Seop showed up with a Korean rap song, and requested that it be played every time he went up to bat. The song has taken the Marlin fans by storm. The music guys have no clue who sings the song or what it says, but the crowd loves the tune ... and so does Hee Seop.

RHP Jeff Weaver - Assortment of rock tunes

Used to come out to Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver." Weaver thought it was lame and requested that the music guys stop using the song.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:51 (nineteen years ago) link

smoltz used to come out of the bullpen to 'dancing queen' til he made them change it. dick.

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 7 August 2004 03:59 (nineteen years ago) link

haha - Eric Byrnes: "Disco Inferno" - byrne baby byrne

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 7 August 2004 04:02 (nineteen years ago) link

the smoltz thing is too awesome. even and especially if there is no absolutely no connectoin (that i'm not pickign up on) b/w the two.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 7 August 2004 04:12 (nineteen years ago) link

no, apparently when they made him a closer they asked him what music he wanted to come out of the bullpen to and he said he had no preference (he was probably still stewing about being made a closer)(hell, he's still stewing over that). "dancing queen it is then". now it's some ac/dc, a bold and inventive choice for a white reliever.

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 7 August 2004 04:25 (nineteen years ago) link

i luv all the 'cue X seconds in' notes, that these guys are dorking out that specifically over their at-bat music (which i sure as hell would be doing).

Haven't been through all of 'em yet, but so far the coolest are Orlando Cabrera with "For the Love of Money" and Xavier Nady's "X Gon' Give it to Ya."

I couldn't tell what Rickey Henderson's music was at the Newark Bears game I attended Saturday.

Damn stenc, I was at that game too! Check yr email.

They play an unusual amount of crappy pop metal at the Newark park.

brian roberts loves the biggie smalls. personal preference or cheeky pun?

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:33 (eighteen years ago) link

The ladyfriend and I had that very debate over MB. The world may never know.

mattbot (mattbot), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:39 (eighteen years ago) link

see, he should have "head games" as his theme!

milton bradley and 70's supergroup foreigner...it's fantastic!

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:51 (eighteen years ago) link

why i am a mets fan this year: the first song they play after the national anthem to psych up the crowd is the brothers johnson, "strawberry letter #23."

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 15 May 2005 23:17 (eighteen years ago) link

wow.

one of these days, when i scam my way in to the commissioner's seat, i will permanently ban we will rock you and car wash from ALL ballparks.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Monday, 16 May 2005 11:49 (eighteen years ago) link

what's wrong with "car wash"?!!?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 15:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't even remember hearing "Car Wash" much...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 16 May 2005 15:50 (eighteen years ago) link

me neither, but even if i did, it's all right. i like the song (and the movie).

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:42 (eighteen years ago) link

one year passes...
When I was in high school we went to baseball games all the time (Mariners), and they'd always play the beginning of Car Wash, but they'd never get to the EEEP! part, so my friend and I would do it really loudly for everyone to enjoy. To ban Car Wash and take away that experience would be a crime.

And FYI, AJ pierzynski's at-bat music is Sharp Dressed Man. Nice.

The "A-Team" theme??

"Right Now" fits my concept.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 26 March 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago) link

I voted for the national anthem. Everyone stands up and respectfully takes off their hats when he comes to bat. Plus it'll tie in well with their national anthem promotion, ensuring that the Mets will get a solid day's work out of whoever wins the contest.

mattbot, Monday, 26 March 2007 21:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Nate Silver at the Home Run Derby:

7:37 PM. By the way, guys really need to be able to pick their music, just like they pick their pitcher. Pujols lost a ton of momentum when Kansas came on the PA system.

So at the Orioles vs. Nationals game in Baltimore tonight they played a bit of the Specials "Ghost Town" before the game, the Replacements "Alex Chilton" before a relief pitcher came in, and some nice salsa for the pre-at bat music of the Orioles Melvin Mora. A zillion years later they still play John Denver "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," at the 7th inning stretch, right about "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." My son told me that in Washington the Nationals are doing the Red Sox thing--playing Neal Diamond "Sweet Caroline."

re: o's

it's kind of weird. they've been using i wanna be your dog a lot. i know they've been using it for luke scott, but someone else who was batting sixth also had it as their walk up music at a game i was at a couple weeks back.

they also tend to use here comes your man by the pixies a lot for pitching chanegs.

j.q higgins, Monday, 19 May 2008 14:23 (fifteen years ago) link

wau, I'm glad there could be some John Denver antitoxin at the O's game next Monday

At Chase they play "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand for opposing team pitching changes.

mookieproof, Saturday, 26 August 2023 21:32 (seven months ago) link

"Dreams" isn't exactly corny, it's a song about cheating, heartbreak and the end of a relationship (also a weird choice for a walkup song).

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Saturday, 26 August 2023 21:38 (seven months ago) link

it's a great song! but also it came out 20 years before he was born and yeah, it's not exactly prime walkup material

it would be like me picking something off 'birth of the cool'
