s1ocki, Monday, 9 July 2007 17:07 (sixteen years ago) link

bf just saw them in williamsburg, had a good time even tho it was barely tolerable, venue wise

Surmounter, Monday, 9 July 2007 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

There is a pre-self-titled album mix floating around called "le mix." Obligatory Klymaxx, Cameo, etc., but some other good stuff. I'm going to the show this saturday @ empty bottle (fits 7.5 people), should be riot-inducing.

valoss, Monday, 9 July 2007 19:19 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah thats where i'll be

deej, Monday, 9 July 2007 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Going to see them in a couple of days, LOVED needy girl and some of the rest of that album grew on me... hopefully will be a good time! (venue is kind of budget but not lacking in space)

now more than ever, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 06:32 (sixteen years ago) link

loving the baltimora-style "oh-oh-wa-oh" on "bonafide lovin"

max, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:20 (sixteen years ago) link

i cant believe ppl i respect/tolerate are feeling this garbage

and what, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

nile rodgers : chromeo :: big daddy kane : edan

and what, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

i enjoy the hipster cheese of it. its certainly a part of the appeal

i dont think anyone would argue this is as great as roger troutman or something

deej, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:33 (sixteen years ago) link

also chicks dig on this

max, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:36 (sixteen years ago) link

look im not hating just cuz hipster douchebags or whatever (my gf likes hot chip) but unless you own every 80s r&b 12" ever produced theres no excuse to waste time on the vice magazine edition

and what, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:36 (sixteen years ago) link

for the price of 1 chromeo record you could buy 15 dollar bin classics

and what, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:36 (sixteen years ago) link

i d***loaded the chromeo record and will gladly see cameo if i catch them touring for 12 dollars

deej, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:41 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah i dont know that id necessarily spend $$ on this but i dont really have a problem w/ this kind of pastiche/revival/whatever; id take zapp over these guys any day but ive heard more bounce to the ounce about six million times

max, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:46 (sixteen years ago) link

plus if i can use them to get babes into lisa lisa & cult jam then im all for it

max, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:50 (sixteen years ago) link

There's something about the best parts of the new one, though, that don't really feel like pastiche -- god knows how, since every individual element seems like pastiche, but there's something about the whole that winds up feeling to me a bit like the difference between Daft Punk and whatever Daft Punk are sampling. (I.e., not really different in content, but somehow vastly different in feel and application and whatnot.)

nabisco, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:51 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah and even on the point about shows, cuet girls go to chromeo shows and formerly-cuet 30/40-somethings go to SOS Band reunions

is there an sos band reunion? i would go to that too probably

deej, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:54 (sixteen years ago) link

i dont think they ever broke up

strongohulkington, Thursday, 12 July 2007 18:59 (sixteen years ago) link

i would like to take my mom to a chromeo show. she would be a good bellweather to their fidelity and authenticity

strongohulkington, Thursday, 12 July 2007 19:00 (sixteen years ago) link

deej, Friday, 13 July 2007 02:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I like most of the songs but some of them are duds. I get embarrassed when the female voice comes on about the telephone number. Great legs on the cover though.

Maria :D, Friday, 13 July 2007 02:49 (sixteen years ago) link

I like this a lot, except for the Momma's Boy song.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 18:35 (sixteen years ago) link

deej, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 19:13 (sixteen years ago) link

none taken, im finally able to admit that 90% of the music i listen to i choose specifically to attract girls.

max, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 19:15 (sixteen years ago) link

i am so far pretty unsuccessful.

max, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 19:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I like the first album better, but the new one is definitely fun. They're playing for free on Monday here in SF as part of a going.com promo. Probably be tons of people there I guess.

Dare, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 19:18 (sixteen years ago) link

show was really fun. girls got on the stage and danced with them. P played drums on a girls butt.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Sunday, 2 September 2007 11:26 (sixteen years ago) link

My roommate got Chromeo in the mail, not every 80s 12" R&B ever produced so I've been listening to the former. :(

da croupier, Sunday, 2 September 2007 12:51 (sixteen years ago) link

if 00s R&B actually sounded like 80s R&B...

blueski, Sunday, 2 September 2007 12:57 (sixteen years ago) link

these days = a bad Felix D H. they sound like they're taking the piss.

pisces, Sunday, 2 September 2007 13:48 (sixteen years ago) link

how so

deej, Sunday, 2 September 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

this is so pleasant, and works great next to the Calvin Harris songs on my summer playlist (which is still funny to meā€”never would have believed a year ago would be a statement that made any sense)

austinb, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 13:48 (six years ago) link

hmm maybe calvin harris and chromeo will start the Premature Bloghouse Revival That Was Foretold

austinb, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 13:49 (six years ago) link

I'd really love for Chromeo to become bigger stars now that even Bruno Mars has stole their thunder.

it seems amazing that in the post-Uptown Funk world Chromeo are still a second-tier act but then you see a video like that and it all makes sense
