oh god i heard "sports!" out somewhere and it kind of blew my mind

I'm kind of surprised to see any acclaim for this at all. It's perfectly formulated for my sense of humor, but it seems like the sort of thing that maybe three people in the world would actually enjoy. I honestly can't imagine recommending it to anyone.

Deric W. Haircare, Friday, 20 June 2008 19:47 (fifteen years ago) link

i am still really surprised to see such (near) universal acclaim for something that is half-the-time hilarious and half-the-time fucking wretched.

This is sort of correct. But shit, the half the time that it's working makes me lol harder than anything else on tv, except maybe for Mr. Show.

YES.
This show works on so many levels and even when it doesn't it just does. Always a win.

I hate how shiny his face is, I'm torn between pity and fear for this character. I love the asexual news casters and all the random ads in between. EVERYTHING.

even though everyone who likes this show besides me is an idiot like VeronaInTheClub who doesn't actually get it like i do, it's my favorite show

iiiijjjj, Saturday, 21 June 2008 01:28 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish that the one scene that had burned itself into my head wasn't the monumentally unfunny hacky sack one because there is some great stuff, I can only ever just rmeember that fucking hacky sack unfunny shit though.

Will M., Saturday, 21 June 2008 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, but right after the hacky sack scene is the part where the loser of the tournament goes

"....sigh...dammit..............goddammnit....sigh....dammit..........AWESOME!"

which is pretty much one of the greatest things I've ever seen. IN MY ENTIRE LIFE SO FAR.

jeff, Monday, 23 June 2008 02:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Fuck yeah I would be on the street team!

JUST GIVE ME THAT CHANCE

Z S, Monday, 23 June 2008 05:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, the coda of the Hackysack scene, with C-Boy walking depressed through the surf, is amazing!

I could use less of the "bloody balls" and shit-type jokes I guess, but I'll take them if they come with the incredible awkward miscommunication/ hallucinatory cable access stuff.

New season (3!) starts July 27h!

cutty, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:30 (fifteen years ago) link

ok, i agree that the post-hacksack thing is great. but seriously. the part before it? awful.

can't get behind the shrimp/white wine stuff iirc.

three months pass...

Eric Wareheim recently directed this video for Flying Lotus's track 'Parisian Goldfish'. The results are undeniably in keeping with T&EASGJ's humour stylings, and definitely not safe for work (or possibly for viewing anywhere, ever).

It's the best thing I've seen in months.

Great job!

it was terrible imo. only good bit was good cop/bad cop with that guy

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 17:25 (fourteen years ago) link

As I've said before, I'm continually shocked that Tim and Eric fans even exist. I love the show unreservedly, though. It's the little things, like how they kept showing the clip of the dude in the audience who wasn't even really laughing, that crack my shit up.

I recently (and reluctantly) introduced my SO to the show and, to my shock and amusement, she seems to love it as much as I do. This might just be the real thing!

Yeah, the whole appeal of TAESGJ is the subtleties, facial twitches/tics, pauses, etc.

about half the material from the first ep was in the live show and boy do they suck live.

^^potentially not true at all, sry^^ (Z S), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Is there actually a killfile or just SB's?

Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Yes, but killfile is for stupids who like to be confused by responses to posts that they can no longer see. I do not understand its existence, but by god I'll die to defend its right to exist.

So this is S5, then? I still havent seen 4 - it seems not to be out on DVD yet. Want to see it mainly for the Tommy Wiseau bits! Which reminds me, is there a thread about The Room cos I can't find one and I saw it last weekend and woah nelly.

live they're openly mocking the audience and the audience is like "yeah, wouldn't it be funny if we found that funny" and everyone is like eight levels removed from what's actually happening which is a pair of guys chanting diarrhea while wearing body suits with huge flopping testicles which isn't really funny at all?

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 20:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Want to see it mainly for the Tommy Wiseau bits!

most (all?) of those bits are on the adult swim website, at least four of them - there may be more in the actual episode (haven't seen it).

btw not sure if this or the On Cinema thread is the designated thread for Office Hours talk, but replacing Doug "smoke drugs first thing in the morning" Pound with Megan Koester was a solid move for that enterprise
