release a statement. Just to be clear I am in Miami, FL working on Rick Ross'

1:38 a.m.: It is reported that DJ Khaled was out of a job last week. Also, Big Will, who apparently died last night, DJed at the same radio station that Khaled did.

1:40 a.m.: LA Times confirms the suspect shot himself, but no word if it was fatal or not.

1:46 a.m.: An officer at the front desk told us that the suspect was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition.

Authorities pursued an armed man in a white Bentley across area freeways for several hours late Monday, leading to a standoff between Los Angeles police and the suspect, who apparently shot himself, police said.

The incident began to unfold shortly before 8 p.m. in the 4000 block of Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood after officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call involving the man's girlfriend.

The suspect, who was believed to be armed but not immediately identified, traversed the Hollywood, San Diego and Santa Ana Freeways at speeds that did not appear to exceed the speed limit before returning to a location in Universal City near where the chase orginated.

At about 11:30 p.m., the man stopped the Bentley within one of the northbound lanes of Lankershim Boulevard in Universal City. A woman approached and tried to talk to the driver before backing off. The man opened the trunk of the vehicle then sat in the car for more than an hour as police surrounded the luxury car and blocked off the street.

The standoff continued until 12:41 a.m., when the man shot himself.

A businessman of Pakistani origin who led police on a more than three-hour chase in a luxury Bentley sedan shot himself early today after more than a dozen police cruisers surrounded his halted vehicle near Universal City, a source close to the Los Angeles Police Department said.

He was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was considered grave, according to LAPD sources.

"It appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot," said the source, who described the suspect as distraught over the loss of his business.

The shooting occurred at 12:41 a.m., about an hour and a half after the suspect had stopped near the scene of an alleged assault with a deadly weapon against his girlfriend in the 4000 block of Lankershim Boulevard.

Police suspected the man was armed and had been "very, very careful" not to confront him during the pursuit that traversed Los Angeles County along the Hollywood Freeway and Interstates 5, 10 and 405, said Officer Karen Smith of the media relations office.

No one at the LAPD dispatch center could confirm the shooting, said Officer Ray Rodriguez, saying that the police officers involved were still at the scene and hadn't reported in to headquarters.

The Illinois-registered white sedan, worth more than $100,000, traversed the city's busiest freeways at or below the speed limit from the time the driver left North Hollywood at 7:55 p.m. until the vehicle stopped at 11:15 p.m. and the long standoff ensued.

A woman holding up her left hand in a gesture apparently intended to signal that no harm was intended had approached the car as soon as it stopped and attempted to open the passenger door but it was locked and she retreated to the safety of the police cars and officers with guns drawn on the suspect.

The Bentley driver popped open the trunk in the first few seconds after stopping, but whether that was an accident or intended to provide a shield across the back window was unknown.

The driver, wearing a close-cropped beard and sunglasses, could be seen on some of the live TV coverage sitting in the front seat of the car for nearly 90 minutes after stopping.

It was at least the fifth police pursuit of a fleeing driver in Los Angeles in the last two weeks.
