This is the thread where we never listen to Imagine Dragons

I don't know anything about Imagine Dragons except apparently they're very popular. There are only a few mentions of them anywhere on ILM. I am intrigued by these bands that become popular and exist somewhere outside my realm of reference. I do not want to hear them or even know what they sound like, because probably they are terrible. So this is a thread for speculating ignorantly about them and making conjectures that are never to be tested or disproven.

For starters, I imagine they look something like this.

I haven't heard of Imajinay Draygoans but I enjoy having the same peculiar relationship with Of Monsters and Men, of whom I know two things - 1. they are called Of Monsters and Men, 2. they have some manner of popularity among some demographic or another.

also I mix them up with Monsters of Folk who I think I know a little bit about but I could be also mixing them up with someone else.

Imagine Dragons = post-grunge bullshit
Of Monsters and Men = twee bullshit

i like the first Imagine Dragons single with mandolins, don't like the second one with dubstep wubs.

the third imagine dragons single, featuring the girl from that gotye song, was a welcome return to form.

not looking forward to their collaboration w/ dave grohl and skrillex, though.

Maybe they're good! I have no idea. Rock bands or ROCK BANDS still existing is interesting to me, even if not interesting enough to really listen to them. I was just looking at the charts and there were Imagine Dragons all over them and it was funny to me. I hope they go on to be bigger than Nickelback.

i quite like how this thread has managed to absorb both certifiable fact from those who have heard the band and never-to-be-tested conjecture from those who haven't, with no particular order or hierarchy. if you removed the top post, it would be a very strange thread. but as it is, it's almost magical. like a dragon.

haha i had a very kneejerk reaction against this band at first but after a while i actually became brainwashed into liking "it's time" - one of my friends always puts it on when she's driving

Little-known facts about Imagine Dragons: They started as a Semisonic tribute band called Closing Tyme. Two of them used to work as birthday-party strippers before recommitting to their Mormon faith. Scott Stapp is such a huge fan that they had to block him from bombing their Twitter account with late-night drunken mash notes.

there's prob more rock (or "rock") on the pop charts the past year than there's been in maybe a decade or more, it's a weird time. but, like, most of the Imagine Dragons album is produced by Alex Da Kid, the guy who produced "Love The Way You Lie." maybe combos like this and fun./Jeff Bhasker are going to be in vogue for a while.

Wonder if the fusion will hold, or if it means there will another big Nirvana-like schism at some point, taking it back to the real rock, man.

i do a lot of freelance work on different kinds of little video shoots and commercials, so i'm always working w/ different people, and there's this one crew i've worked w/ a lot lately and the guy in charge always seemed really cool and smart. but last time i worked with them, he was on his laptop working for like an hour before we got started and, and he kept playing "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, the song of theirs that i totally hate, over and over and over and singing along with it. really bummed me out.

I accidentally heard some of this crap today and they sound like shitfucks.

According to my data, if you don't want to hear Imagine Dragons you might also want to not hear Neon Trees, Young the Giant, Walk the Moon, Grouplove, AWOLNATION, Fun., Dan Reynolds, the Naked and Famous, Of Monsters and Men and Matt & Kim. And some emerging songs you might want to avoid discovering right now include "House of Gold" by Twenty One Pilots, "Wilderness" by Ra Ra Riot, "Choice Mountain" by Everything Everything, and "Rootless" by Youngblood Hawke. And along with Everything Everything come Django Django and Mother Mother.

Ugh I hate people... in one of my bars keep asking for those Imagine Dragons singles from this year and they are awful. I refuse you Imagine Dragons!

i got blindsided in a rental car lol. i was like, what is this bullshit that lifted a melody from Barenaked Ladies (and it was irritating the first time)? and it was imagine dragons. so.

my neighbors went to this concert a few weeks ago and came home with matching Imagine Dragon shirts.

also, find it disconcerting that Google Voice to Text knows to capitalize Imagine Dragons.

For the record I think they might be a cross between Styx and Brokencyde, with classic 80s fighting fantasy cover artwork.

this band is very popular and actually well-liked by those who listen to them. i understand that it is unbelievable to these writer folx that anyone could actually like this band (really, i get it, they truly are terrible) but idk why this narrative, that such an act is in reality broadly hated and can only have reached broad exposure thru sheer force on the part of record companies, still gets traction. it wasn't true for creed. it wasn't true for nickelback. it won't be true for the next one.

its sort of impressive the way they manage to incorporate every single terrible pop rock trend from this decade - mumford-esque twee folk pop, really clunky dubstep integration, terrible sing-rapping, etc

and they're from Vegas!

The one good thing I will say about Imagine Dragons is that the lead singer has been an activist for LGBTQ youth within the Mormon church.
