Yeah, give me July and August anytime. March is a stepping stone to those. PS I am drunk.

I hated March growing up because in upstate NY it was pretty much just gray, muddy, icy, slush, punctuated by the occasional blizzard. March in East Tennessee is a whole other thing, there's usually a point during the month where suddenly everything blooms in about 3 days and it's 70 and sunny. We get some more dreary weather into April, but still, it's generally beautiful. It hasn't started well this year -- 35 and gray today -- but forecast says 66 by next weekend, so here's hoping.

May in NEOH is heavenly. The metroparks, the blooming of the valley, it's great.

And I can't see/feel/smell May yet at all, but it's getting cloooooooser.

LL, going to have another May Day celebration? I liked it last year but it was too cold.

Jeff, Saturday, 2 March 2013 19:35 (eleven years ago) link

I want to make it annual! Maybe you could do some weather research for me to see the most reliably temperate weekend in May?

i'll give February props for destroying the streets in this city

brownie, Saturday, 2 March 2013 20:12 (eleven years ago) link

early to mid spring here is harsh and schizo. the air is cold and the sun is glaring. you're grateful for the extra 10-15 degrees F but it's still a little unpleasant, it's dry and dirty, everything is still dead, the sun feels pissed somehow. our last snowstorm usually isn't until may. around then it starts to soften up a little and there you are in early summer. spring is like all the coughing and drainage of congestion you have to go through before you finally kick a cold.

traditionally i didnt really like march that much, apart from negative definition wrt february but i am beginning to like march on its own terms

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Sunday, 3 March 2013 14:06 (eleven years ago) link

sunny today, high of 32

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Sunday, 3 March 2013 14:23 (eleven years ago) link

19 here. march refuses to stop being cold. i always get older in march. in less than a week, in fact; i have no idea what i'm doing to celebrate. it feels strange to anticipate spring break and turning 32 at the same time! like... "i'm 40 today...and i'm getting my braces off!"

arby's, Sunday, 3 March 2013 15:06 (eleven years ago) link

oh it's a high of 32 here, too...it's not sooo bad.

arby's, Sunday, 3 March 2013 15:07 (eleven years ago) link

i always drag my feet through march but there's always that layer of anticipation underneath the surface that makes it sort of great

arby's, Sunday, 3 March 2013 15:08 (eleven years ago) link

^^^ that is the essence of hell yes it's march !!!!
everyone starts off grumbling under their breath and by the end it's like someone opened the door of the tomb and finally let in some fresh air
i love the onset of spring almost as much as spring itself

I rode my bike in the snow last night! Can't wait for spring nights.

This snowstorm is a bit of a bummer, but we expected setbacks. At least it's bound to be the last big one.

everyone hates it but i kinda love commuting in horrible conditions. everyone driving soooo slow. peaceful. and the snow is really pretty.

also you can show up way late and nobody cares

i kinda relaxed into a trance while waiting for the metra and listening to basic channel y'day — everything was white and the visibility was so low you couldn't see the train until it was right in front of you.

mimosa pudica (clouds), Wednesday, 6 March 2013 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

commuting vibes

I took the metra a couple times! not shabby

☠ ☃ ☠ (mh), Wednesday, 6 March 2013 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

I like that space out effect with snow. That's part of snow's charm iirc.
