All this and my birthday's tomorrow so fuck yeah March.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 March 2013 15:13 (eight years ago) link

the first bike ride through the park to the fern room is one of the things i am looking forward to the most. i am maxed out on drama and ready for some outdoors activities prontito.

the neighborhood makes me skittish but we should go together!

þjóðaratkvæðagreiðsla (clouds), Friday, 1 March 2013 15:16 (eight years ago) link

me too, but i brave the waters for the fern room (it's closer to me than gp too)
this weekend is super weird for a reason i will hopefully explain to you when i see you on sunday! this event has been on the calendar, which means i have to actually do it.

one thing i find difficult/challenging about spring is remembering how to do things again; slowing down in the fall is always a challenge too.

march is a challenge that usually pays off at least somewhat toward the end but mostly is a sign of better times ahead
i'll take it

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Friday, 1 March 2013 15:31 (eight years ago) link

march is when you plan for may
why because it's right around the corner

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Friday, 1 March 2013 15:31 (eight years ago) link

haha, I only put on Skylarking when the temperature hits 70 (first 70 degree day of the year, every year).

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Friday, 1 March 2013 15:35 (eight years ago) link

I'll listen to it at 50 degrees even though I fully admit that it sounds better at 70.

March isn't my favorite month, but February is my most hated month, so by comparison, March is pretty fucking awesome. And a sign of better things to come.

Jeff, Friday, 1 March 2013 18:16 (eight years ago) link

March isn't my favorite month by a long shot, but it's much much closer than, say, December.

January and September are my least favorite.

I have to like March because it's my birth month.

doctor, doctor, what's in my shirt (askance johnson), Friday, 1 March 2013 18:46 (eight years ago) link

I don't get excited about March anymore, because March is the month of false hopes. March always lets you down. But yeah, at least it's not fucking February, by far my most hated month.

cwkiii, Friday, 1 March 2013 19:17 (eight years ago) link

i have to get excited about march or i lose hope completely
it's going to be rough going here while we transition, but things will slowly get better
(as opposed to facing months and months of things slowly getting worse)

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Friday, 1 March 2013 19:32 (eight years ago) link

March is going to be a big improvement over Feb. 'cause I can get some seeds into the ground, continue trying to get in better shape, maybe travel a bit, smoke some ribs, etc

my birthday is in april so I appreciate March as the leadup

also daylight savings starts in a couple of weeks, and I'm excited to resume my evening walks after work

it's more than the weather for me -- the cold season (nov-feb) is accompanied by a slew of holidays that i don't care about/would prefer to ignore and a hibernation period i find stultifying. March-October brings increasing sun, warmth, AND people. that's important to me. i didn't realize how important it was for a long time but it is important to me!!

In the UK, we've just had the wettest February on record; they don't keep wind records but I'd happily bet it's been the windiest, too. The woods are a carnage of fallen trees and the fields are shin-deep in water but the days are heavier with light and the birds are singing so I'll take it.

Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Sunday, 1 March 2020 10:56 (one year ago) link

I was out yesterday evening walking through advanced quagmire in the rain, even grassy areas are so saturated you have to watch your footing on hills. The daffodils are coming up nicely though.

This year I’m not as excited about March bc I’m unemployed and this is my deadline for beginning my job search in earnest. The weather is def getting better though.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 March 2021 13:29 (three months ago) link

It was 72 here yesterday, and the trees are budding. Birds everywhere, spring on the wing.

x-posting my blunder:

March is just a slightly less aggro February here. Having to wait until late April/early May to experience spring for a split second before summer sets in is one of the things I hate the most about living in Quebec.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 March 2021 16:17 (three months ago) link

Growing up in the Northeast, spring was my least favorite season. I remember it as a slurry of dirty snow, muddy boots, damp mittens and dead yellow grass poking through during thaws. I never understood the appeal of the season til I moved to East Tennessee, where it really does that Bambi thing where everything suddenly flowers in mid-to-late March, we get highs from 65 to 75, and it is just totally gorgeous (if hard on the sinuses).

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 March 2021 20:01 (three months ago) link

I woke up, read all your posts about beautiful spring weather, and was consumed with envy because it's been cold and rainy and gray here and I didn't expect it to change for another few weeks. Went out to walk the dog, and it turns out to be the most beautiful sunny spring day, just perfect.

I don't have to work today except for class prep, so I'm going to go for a long walk in the sun and listen to a Springsteen concert from 1977.

It's true – the current forecast says we'll be hitting 7°C on Tuesday and 11°C on Wednesday, which feels like a small miracle right now. Too bad we'll still be stuck at sub zero temperatures this weekend, as I'm supposed to go for a physically distanced walk with some friends.
