It does help me in that it makes me happy that someone still cares about the working stiff who might want to tag up with his meager musical aspirations on his way home at night.

Do you still stock instructional materials/sheet music? Matt Umanov doesn't anymore, just those little gig bag chord books.

we stock instructional stuff but i cant give away sheet music or tab at this point, all the old school publishers are in full panic mode and trying to find other stuff to sell at this point, its pretty much over for them i think

Wait, what is there to replace sheet music and tab? Or is it that people just don't give a fuck?

They just download it off the internet? Or they ask their friends to email them a giant zip file with charts for every song ever recorded? But yeah, I know, it's kind of sad. RIP, sheet music:(

one month passes...

The only thing worse than music stores that close at 6pm is dealing with their staff between 5pm and 6pm. Half of them behave as if they have a bag of cocaine burning a hole in their pocket. I get it, you're about to close the store and you have other things to do. During the last hour of your shift you're liable to be short-tempered and easily distracted. I still need to purchase things, which I came here to do in the 15 minutes you're open for normal people.

there's a sam ash in forest hills -- took me a while to realize this, and was surprised to run across it

Walked by there recently. They have a surprising amount of single page sheet music as well as books, although some of the latter seem well-thumbed by decades of customers- kind of a Store That Time Forgot. Although I did see some guys go in there to try out -what are those things called again?- oh yes, Lunchbox amps.

three months pass...

Went by Park Row today and saw that most of the J&R stores are closed now, there is mainly only the one on the corner of Broadway.

four years pass...

That last J&R is of course gone. Rudy's reopened on Broome Street.
