Coupla things with this one:

http://www.caglecartoons.com/images/preview/%7B21B49B61-A25E-4C41-A95F-5025AB56C20A%7D.gif

1) It's another standard "media pays attention to the wrong things" riff, which I guess is still somewhat positive that even the most authoritarian followers still have an idea that having a media is a good thing, but

2) complaining about them covering pointless shit and not, say, U.S. troop deaths when they've spent _years_ vociferously supporting the assholes who've completely prohibited coverage of returning coffins, who go out of their way on a pretty much weekly to downplay loss of life("why, we lost FAR more in WWII, what are these DFH complaining about?!") and overall sacrifice that a very few american citizens are having to make b/c of all this, and who deliberately want a Murdoch-style bullshit tabloid media where entertainment is now information, etc.

but yeah, compartmentalized thinking, lack of self-awareness, simplistic causation, etc etc etc

THE ISLAMOFASCISTS HAS TAKEN OVER OH NOES WE MUST ALL GO HIDE WITH THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE!!11

http://media.townhall.com/Townhall/Car/b/ca0530ad.jpg

HEY YOU STUPID FUCK, remember that troop pay increase that's being blocked? well guess who the fuck's blocking it, and who the fuck's supporting it. and NICE USE of the lazy-ass "probably" here jesus christ FUCK these guys even try my patience for this shit sometimes.

And a correction: the batshittery attributed by me to Chip Bok a few posts up is in fact by Chuck Asay, the Colorado Springs-residing dingus who made these last two.

I'm actually beginning to think these people are like those skinnerboxed raised-by-wolves/locked-in-the-basement kids who can learn vocabulary but can only barely use grammar patterns, there's some part of their childhood development that left them unable to process anything besides the authoritarian-believer mindset that kingfish keeps alluding to

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:05 (sixteen years ago) link

The fact that some of them run for local office just makes it all the more entertaining/horrifying.

kingfish, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

The Obama one is fun, since it conflates the boogeyman of universal healthcare AND tort reform. Market idolatry is so ingrained with these guys that anything which could possibly affect the success of the successful(incl. people suing when they get fucked over by sucessful cretins) must be commie-nism and therefore destroyed.

Oh yeah, and all trial lawyers are hairy white dudes.

kingfish, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:40 (sixteen years ago) link

In gay mixed race relationships apparently.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

But I keep talking about the mindset b/c I think it deserves more attention, both as pointing out how the many of the power holders in america are pretty much the LGF comment section writ large, as well as drawing more attention to a less-articulated & more traditonally American progressive view of things(e.g. that we the people can fashion a public service that examines the kind of shit that going into food and pharmaceuticals, a service not entirely staffed by clueless apparatchiks loyal only to the Party).

kingfish, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

And also that the problem isn't so much just dubya/cheney/etc, they're out office in 18 months or so. The problem is the mindset of modern american conservatism itself, with all of its simplistic, xenophobic, empiricism-rejecting and authoritarian aspects.

kingfish, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

thing is guys, though, we need tort reform

river wolf, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

check this out kingfish, if you agree with most of what lindsey's saying about the economic and demographic roots of our current clusterfuck, we might not have these problems for much longer; also, we'll all be poor, but hey.

I have a personal bias bcz I just really enjoy blaming the baby boomers for absolutely everything currently shitty about America

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 16:50 (sixteen years ago) link

that is because they are to blam,e not just in america but all over the west and they won't fucking let go, they have their death grip around, society culture and politics so hard and they are pulling us down into their macabre zombie dance.

Ed, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll check the Econ piece in a bit, but I think we're going to be plenty fucked for a good while. It's one of those things that I was talking about on another thread; that in America, we have to go thru intense shit once a generation(or every so often) before we give a fuck about our culture & politics. then we spent years of blood and sweat and warface to finally boost everything up again, before our kids come along and ruin it all somewhere down the line, and their kids have to fix it one more.

Still, it'll be interesting to see what happens when a significant enough portion of the populace realize they're now "working poor" as opposed to "middle class". I think the howling angst will generate such a loud thrashing to make the most rightwing batshit cartoon in this thread look like a Buckley column.

xp

okay, i agree. it's like, jesus christ, grandpa and grandma had to go thru all this shit, make it so that we had GI bills, unions, and whatnot just for my dad to come along, attend a public university on a GI bill and a living wage, join a teachers union when he got out, and then vote repub for the rest of his life(barring the Perot vote).

kingfish, Tuesday, 5 June 2007 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Has anyone else noticed that the cartoon at the start of this thread appears to have been changed somewhat?

Oh yeah, that canadian guy? the kid who was 15 years old when they picked him up and he's been tortured and rotting in gitmo in 5 years, he was TOTALLY guilty, and by the fact that all charges were dropped against him means that the nanny state is coddling evildoers again by making them wait five years for their trial.

not the first time on this thread, but i'm offended! in several different ways! it is kind of fun to read all the labels though. nice to get so many all shoved together, and how surprising to see islamic conversion and atheism cuddling so happily.

from blessedcause.org:

Samantha's mom wrote her a note to "opt out" of the 7th grade Islam course. When Samantha handed her teacher the note, the teacher became angry, held up the note and shouted at the class, "Is there anyone else!?"

Is there ANYONE FUCKING ELSE? I'm sorry I meant IS THERE ANYONE. FUCKING. ELSE. !?
