would have voted thom radiohead. kraftwerk are nice but too much of it is tinny, boring, and dated.

Ha!
While I'm sure more of it is hatred toward the idea of radiohead than anything to do with their music, I don't get the animosity towards Radiohead from here, hence the idea that ILM would have a sweeping vote for Radiohead over Kraftwerk is laughable. They're not Kraftwerk, though, that can be said,
― mehlt, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 00:17 (fifteen years ago) link
I like them both a lot. I don't know who I would ever vote over Kraftwerk, though. (not even Can!)
― I shall always respect my elders (Z S), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 00:18 (fifteen years ago) link
I really really like Radiohead a lot. But Kraftwerk seem like maybe on of a handful of the really important artists of the 20th century, up there with Chuck Berry, Miles, James Brown, etc.

there are times when i have listened to radiohead more than kraftwerk and vice versa. but even if i listened to radiohead 10 times more, would that necessarily negate the opinion?
― Yah Trick Ya Kid K (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 00:26 (fifteen years ago) link
I am voting on who I would rather listen to. only music crits care about "influence" and "importance".
xpost and yeah, # of times listened is probably the best gauge available. anything else is just frontin' imo.

i dunno. for me i have a whole bunch of stuff on vinyl and/or CDs i haven't ripped to my computer at work, so i tend to just sort of listen to whatever recent stuff i have ripped more times than stuff i actually like a lot better.

I am one of those 111 and don't necessarily listen to Kraftwerk all the time, but listen to Radiohead more or less never.

ps I'm not some crazy radiohead fan, I've just always found kraftwerk to be more important than enjoyable, outside of like 'computer love'
I don't like Radiohead tho.

They've sometimes got a childlike quality about them. Which you certainly could not say about Radiohead!

No Surprises, musically at least
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 14:04 (fifteen years ago) link
I think Radiohead is plenty childlike but more like the stuff of children's nightmares. thom yorke's doom and gloom (especially around kid a and amnesiac) always felt a bit like a ten-year-old confronting the idea of death for the first time.
― Disco/Very (Roz), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 14:05 (fifteen years ago) link
I never got around to knowing the lyrics of amnesiac songs - it is my favorite album of theirs

I would imagine this totally comes down to when and what you hear. My first Kraftwerk exposure was "Trans-Europe Express" in my mid-teens and I certainly got THAT right away, but I'm not sure I would have picked up on, say, "The Looking Glass" the same way.

It's a good thing Kraftwerk is opening so I don't have to rush to get in there.
