idk if anyone here has the constitution to regularly check the wideboys kiss bass mix (LOL trebliest thing of all time in actuality) but this last one is a quite unmissable stonker
proper astonishing q-level adhd aspartame mayhem (and yes that is 40-something tracks in an hour)

That comp is sounding great though!
― MikoMcha, Friday, 3 May 2013 12:35 (ten years ago) link
i liked it fine enough (mixed especially) but it's seriously only about half as good as the first imo - most of the artists have better trax floating around elsewhere (even on moda itself wrt j&ag 'guess who' and celsius 'thought as much'). i'd say it seems to settle for a narrower consistent signature vibe where vol 1 had a broader, more unpredictable scope
the huxley is reliably slamming though, and the lrusse & bleecker earcatching if ungainly for a house tune

kinda lol how hs82 and danny daze totally swapped styles for their tunes, wonder if they made a bet

I dunno... "It's the bubbles of nothing that make it really something" is probably my favorite out of those. I'll try to think of something, but the keywords ineffable and bubblers are kind of restrictive.

** haha love how thoroughly the former haven of super respectful & reverent touchy-feely geeks that was deep house has been hijacked by the happy-go-lucky vulgar types, like blog-houser Dcup branding his stabs at 'deep house' as DEEP BITCH remixes or when certifiedjackin on fb wrote something along the lines of 'hey guys i wanna start a new deep house youtube channel do you have a suggestion for a name, ie BALLS DEEP?'

I think the real demarcation these days is less between abstract vs songful and more along production values lines. This is where a distinction between say 1999 garage and 2001 garage really makes sense, the earlier stuff still retaining a kind of vinyl warmth and almost-"deepness" and the later stuff sounding like the contrast has been turned up - heavier but more plasticky beats, exaggerated bass but also exaggerated treble... a generalised air of hyperreality. This (rather than pop vs abstraction or lightness vs heaviness) is probably the key point of distinction between "future garage" and the stuff that Q plays, only it's even more extreme now, future garage being "deep" to the point where it has to shun anything that might interfere with that, and the Q interzone retaining (albeit as a kind of reigning principle rather than a clearly defined sonic property) the sickly harshness of bassline.― Tim F, Thursday, July 5, 2012 11:18 PM (11 months ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
