I only had to play it twice before the kids and wife started to sing along to it. They didn't say anything about it being tired either.

"rockin that shit" was unremarkable hmmmmk

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Saturday, 16 February 2013 14:10 (eleven years ago) link

haha yeah i raised an eyebrow at that too

weed, tumblr whites and wein (some dude), Saturday, 16 February 2013 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

it's funny that he starts this new song off by saying "i know they're not gonna play this on top 40 radio" despite that quote from a year or so ago where he was like "i can write a solo smash whenever i want to, that's not what i'm going for right now. i'm gonna do that when i'm 50."

there's also the 'radio killah' that gets sung right before this part

career killah killah killah

imo ppl repping for this song are in denial or fetishizing dream's dream-ness

rap steve gadd (D-40), Sunday, 17 February 2013 01:56 (eleven years ago) link

ok

乒乓, Sunday, 17 February 2013 01:59 (eleven years ago) link

nah you're straight lying to yourself if you think this is up there with his worst stuff. it pretty undeniably has hooks!

k3vin k., Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:06 (eleven years ago) link

i mean people who stanned for "abyss" and most of love king aren't gonna tell me what has a tune and what doesn't

k3vin k., Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:07 (eleven years ago) link

abyss is so much better than this its not even funny

rap steve gadd (D-40), Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:12 (eleven years ago) link

im willing to buy that for someone coming to dream w/ no context for his work or w/e might have no problem w/ this but you dont even have that excuse

rap steve gadd (D-40), Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:13 (eleven years ago) link

well as i said, it's a second-rate FILA, but give me those over "abyss" or something like "body work"

k3vin k., Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:18 (eleven years ago) link

I quite like the sound of Fab's verse, if not the content

― Number None, Friday, 15 February 2013 18:20 (2 days ago) Bookmark

fab comparing himself to winnie the pooh is probably the only worthwhile bit of the track

i dont dislike abyss but dream has 20+ better songs imo

johnny crunch, Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:36 (eleven years ago) link

but i don't even know how this song is half as good as "Dope Chick"

― weed, tumblr whites and wein (some dude), Friday, 15 February 2013 14:52 (2 days ago) Bookmark

true

'dope chick' is actually a real lil outlier for terius imo, an agreeable cute radio track that lives for itself (not outstandingly memorably so, but still) and doesnt lean very heavily at all on his mythos

in the absence of any inspiration forthcoming he'd have been vastly better off chilling out and racking up three or four of those instead of putting the tattered pink chanel suit through the sewing machine one mo gin

r|t|c, Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:44 (eleven years ago) link

i never liked dope chick tbh

johnny crunch, Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:47 (eleven years ago) link

& actually hearing this in higher quality than i did the first few times, im w/ it much more than initially

johnny crunch, Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:50 (eleven years ago) link

aaaaand that'll be deej otm

r|t|c, Sunday, 17 February 2013 02:52 (eleven years ago) link

there is no rational reason to listen to this new one more than 1.5 times

people get all weirdly out of shape about what dream songs are acceptable to like and idgi. i'm not really into this song but if other people are, that's fine.

乒乓, Sunday, 17 February 2013 03:24 (eleven years ago) link

no other people being into this song is completely unacceptable

rap steve gadd (D-40), Sunday, 17 February 2013 03:36 (eleven years ago) link

the-dream doesn't really warrant a ballot poll of best tracks but i almost wish you guys would do one just to get the endless hair-splitting over his catalog out of your system

almost every person itt had picked over his catalog song by song

rap steve gadd (D-40), Sunday, 17 February 2013 04:10 (eleven years ago) link

but good to get a vote from the deej police

rap steve gadd (D-40), Sunday, 17 February 2013 04:11 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i don't think it's particularly accurate to single deej out as the dream police, we all probably think of ourselves as the authority on his work tbh

i enjoyed Roc and quite like Slow It Down. didn't adore Dope Bitch. All of them are worse than Fuck My Brains Out (and I don't dislike Body Work the way some people here do.)

Abyss is one of my least favourite tracks on Love King (also Panties to the Side) but they work in the context of the album and I enjoy Abyss when I hear it on the LP I just wouldn't ever put it on otherwise. Whereas I can see myself listening to Slow It Down a decent amount. Not sure if that makes it 'better' or just more of a single.

i mean obviously none of this compares to imperial phase Terius but after that it's Yamaha and Veteran and about half of Love King and then it's splitting hairs from there.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Sunday, 17 February 2013 04:28 (eleven years ago) link

big difference here is the production which...i dunno. i miss the detail work that we would get from tricky. the broad strokes are all pretty good still but it feels a bit shallower sometimes, is all.

i just mean he was ahead of the curve on Love/Hate and every since then when people talk about his new records he just kind of loudly sighs and stomps his feet

i just mean that al has some kind of passive aggressive hard on for me right now & could do to chill it out

everyone in this thread has ~passionate~ feelings abt dream records

i.... kind of agree with deej on his opinion of this. it seems kinda weak.

Even by Zales standards, that's sad. (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 17 February 2013 05:05 (eleven years ago) link
