I can't think of any songs that would actually remind me of Worcester itself (maybe This Place Sucks by the Queers lolwtf) but early Madness and Altered Images have very strong links in my head to being a kid there even though the songs themselves don't have anything to do with the place. Er, relevant post there.
Hey Colonel Poo, don't restrict yourself too much. The song/band doesn't directly have to say or be about your city, it can simply be a song that you listened to a lot whilst there or somehow it now reminds you of home.
To everyone: Thanks, guys! At the risk of sounding too sentimental or wearing my heart on my sleeve, this has helped me feel not so alone because I am away from the place I call home. It just so happens I actually want to go back.
Strangely enough, when I was going to move down here (a huge, major American city), everyone was asking me why I would ever want to move down here. I don't exactly hail from a small town (it's one of 3 major Canadian cities).
But I drive to work everyday here and sometimes pop in Neil Young's Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and it feels like one of those songs that was written just for you, because many of the little details align with my own life and circumstance. If I've deduced the details correctly (and someone correct me if I am wrong), Neil Young wrote this tune while living in Los Angeles, and even though home isn't a small town, it is still very different from LA and not so crazy.
