This is a bit of a trifle but I'm enjoying it, more than I expected to from reading the most recent posts at least. Fabolous verse is woeful though.

I stand by my theory that Terius has always had pretty much zero quality control, but he barely needed it up to 2010 or thereabouts because his overall quality was so high.

the fab verse definitely sucks but the nu-dream alternative would've been an electric guitar solo so i can deal with it

I quite like the sound of Fab's verse, if not the content

if the-dream ever makes a solo song that blows up and people sing along with again, it will definitely feature the line "looking at butts"

I don't know about you guys but when he sings "You can see her ass from a satelite!" I get all warm and fuzzy inside.

Can he go away and not come back until he's made a whole album along the lines of "Schoolin Life" (not strictly the same, but variations on that theme. Preferably with Bey)

man i swear for all the years i've been bullshitting about terius on this board i've never understood anyone's - except probably tim's - taste in dream songs. this os hardly a leap forward or anything - i don't want to say "those days are over" because he'll come and hit us with some of his best work out of nowhere like he did with "4", but the days of that being the norm are certainly over - but this is just a solid terius joint. real warm, hooky, everything in its right place, sort of 2013's "FILA". i'm OK with this existing

^^ this is otm i think. was super curious to hear this having read a couple of responses here but yeah it's just like ... fine, & nice. it's funny, i was reading some thing about suit & tie in which the reviewer talked about various things having stepped into timberlake's shoes in the five years in which he was quiet, dream records & frank ocean & various subgenres of r&b, &c, & wrt this song that feels kinda pronounced, too, like hearing something that's so terius - in being this pretty lush textural build-up of all of his favourite tropes - the song feels like a more specialist, slightly marginal catalogue entry for dream fans more than it does an general new release by anyone else. like you go to it for what you get from him, & you get a kinda 2013 FILA as a result, even if that thing has become slightly less significant or universal than it once was. i'm psyched for the record too, even as just a bunch of generic dream textural synth jams. it sounds nice.

thing is terius has made solid, unremarkable, even terius-by-numbers singles before - "rockin' that shit", "love king", "fila" - that he obviously did in 10 minutes but they were still pretty likable and hooky. this is just tired.

Well this is definitely likable and hooky to me. It is self-consciously throwback, but in a fun way. But then again I love terius-by-numbers better than I love almost any other numbers.

I only had to play it twice before the kids and wife started to sing along to it. They didn't say anything about it being tired either.

it's funny that he starts this new song off by saying "i know they're not gonna play this on top 40 radio" despite that quote from a year or so ago where he was like "i can write a solo smash whenever i want to, that's not what i'm going for right now. i'm gonna do that when i'm 50."

im willing to buy that for someone coming to dream w/ no context for his work or w/e might have no problem w/ this but you dont even have that excuse

well as i said, it's a second-rate FILA, but give me those over "abyss" or something like "body work"

'dope chick' is actually a real lil outlier for terius imo, an agreeable cute radio track that lives for itself (not outstandingly memorably so, but still) and doesnt lean very heavily at all on his mythos

in the absence of any inspiration forthcoming he'd have been vastly better off chilling out and racking up three or four of those instead of putting the tattered pink chanel suit through the sewing machine one mo gin
