looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Robin van Injury (country matters), Saturday, 7 February 2009 18:33 (fifteen years ago) link

kp will rescue them... oh wait a min. They can all fuck off to the IPL for the money. Clearly they have no pride or guts in playing for England.

Boring Sign In Name (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 7 February 2009 18:41 (fifteen years ago) link

and before you leap to kp's defence louis, i said all of them

Boring Sign In Name (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 7 February 2009 18:42 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^This is a really stupid thing to say, especially given how hard KP fought for us in the first knock.

o xpost

Well, it's not like they have no pride or guts! They're simply collapsing, England-style (albeit even more spectacularly than usual). Surely you're used to it by now? They want it, but too many of them are bottlers. Ahem.

Robin van Injury (country matters), Saturday, 7 February 2009 18:44 (fifteen years ago) link

lol at confusing not being very good with not having pride

Yeah, exactly.

Great game for fans of watching West Indian supporters bogling and laughing.

fwiw all the commentators are talking about this, partially because Botham is one of them

there wont be a repeat of that.

"If Flintoff goes across the line, Fidel Edwards is skiddy, it could creep under his bat. Flintoff has to hit it straight"

Awesome stuff Nasser :D

Robin van Injury (country matters), Saturday, 7 February 2009 19:33 (fifteen years ago) link

(for those keeping score, Nasser said that 3 seconds before being proven correct)

Robin van Injury (country matters), Saturday, 7 February 2009 19:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Ah well, good effort from plucky little England.

i dunno dom, is this even a thing? (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 7 February 2009 19:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Betting suspended on Aus whitewashing us in the summer I reckon.

amazing

Robin van Injury (country matters), Saturday, 7 February 2009 19:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I am kind of chuffed for the Windies who on more than one occasion in the last few years I've been worried will vanish as a Test force.

I am kind of chuffed for the Windies who on more than one occasion in the last few years I've been worried will vanish as a Test force.

tbh, that fear of 'cricket will die in the Windies' had only started at the disastrous way the World Cup was handled. Cricket has always run for too long for it to vanish just because of, I dunno, basketball or what have you.

Its like 1995 all over again - the circle is complete...

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 February 2009 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link

It's been around for years - maybe when it became obvious that they were going to be less good than Lara deserved, and definitely since it became obvious *just how much* less good that was going to be. The World Cup was supposed to be a last chance to turn it around.

Anyway, I'm stoked for them. I hope that good players and a good spirit were all that was missing all along

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 7 February 2009 20:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Quite a few of this side are of course Stanford Millionaires, which is probably helping their morale tbh

Robin van Injury (country matters), Saturday, 7 February 2009 20:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh yes, sorry, I know the death of West Indian cricket has been talked about for years, but I don't think I ever really felt it until the shambles of the last World cup.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 February 2009 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link

I guess from my POV it was more the seeming lack of world class players and at times even the sense of flair that ran through the great West Indies sides, that and the "basketball taking over the Caribbean" stories.

i dunno dom, is this even a thing? (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 7 February 2009 20:46 (fifteen years ago) link

LOL at England.

Live from the Witch Trials (SeekAltRoute), Saturday, 7 February 2009 21:09 (fifteen years ago) link

Bell out, Monty out (although he'll stay). Not convinced about Shah replacing Bell. No form and little interest from most of the batsmen, it would seem.

ALL OUT FOR 51
ALL OUT FOR 51
ALL OUT FOR 51

And to think I was worried about The Ashes this year.

The Loneliness of the Middle Order Batsman (King Boy Pato), Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:15 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah not looking too handy for that, I get the feeling that the wheels are falling off.

BTW The Sun called KP "Dumb Slog Millionaire", which I thought was pretty good.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:20 (fifteen years ago) link

One of the worser things is that Pietersen was one of the few good performers in the match, but you have to say his presence probably means the dressing room won't reach any kind of equilibrium for a while.

The decision to not hire a coach for this series was crazy in retrospect. Hard to see what the ECB could've done, its not a decision to be taken lightly given that they had to sack the Moores right there and then, with no obvious replacement (Tom Moody not readily available, say). Totally fucked situation.

This is probably worse than '95 or so. This time you kinda know this bunch could perform better than they are.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:21 (fifteen years ago) link

"Dumb Slog Millionaire"

genuine lols

Yeah he wouldn't take any crap. I get the feeling that Flower is a lame duck, and Strauss is having trouble getting his (perfectly sensible) message across.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:25 (fifteen years ago) link

Yep. Flower and Ottis Gibson. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Lehmann in charge

Abbe Black Tentacle (GamalielRatsey), Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Dude is from Elizabeth so a) he wouldn't take any crap and b) is used to dealing with annoying useless poms.

The Loneliness of the Middle Order Batsman (King Boy Pato), Sunday, 8 February 2009 10:38 (fifteen years ago) link

This is just lazy and I'd say totally inaccurate speculation.

"Dumb Slog Millionaire" is ingenious, but again using it on KP strikes me as injustifiably going for the easy target.
