I have to write my review and prepare stuff for tQ before I go to bed and then get back up again at 6am with my son so I'll have to limit myself to saying... I really enjoyed it! Sorry. (There'll be a shortish live review with pictures on the Quietus tomorrow fingers crossed.)

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 00:09 (eleven years ago) link

Ah, no worries. I'll be definitely looking forward to what you've got to say about it on the site :)

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Thursday, 7 February 2013 00:13 (eleven years ago) link

Don't want to spoil anything for those that are going this week, especially Matt#2 who could easily punch me tomorrow.

I have a pro-tip tho', apparently the sound is much better the closer you are to the front..

stoked 4 the madness 2nite, that setlist is amazing!

Neil S, Thursday, 7 February 2013 09:31 (eleven years ago) link

I forgot what a jam 'Vitamin' is.

MaresNest, Thursday, 7 February 2013 09:53 (eleven years ago) link

radio-active krew here too

jabba hands, Thursday, 7 February 2013 11:48 (eleven years ago) link

did you see them in '07 jabbs

( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Thursday, 7 February 2013 12:41 (eleven years ago) link

08 i think it was, in NZ. it was amazing. if anything tate modern promises to be an even more spectacular venue than auckland town hall.

jabba hands, Thursday, 7 February 2013 12:54 (eleven years ago) link

So, what kind of Kraftwerk 'merch' is on sale there?

Mark G, Thursday, 7 February 2013 13:08 (eleven years ago) link

Autobahn Ts, Tote bags from most album covers, Two hardback photobooks - one in 3D, the vinyl and CD box set and a bunch of posters.

I was hoping for a teapot.

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

I managed to get the (black) CD box set about a year ago, £60 off Amazon

Mark G, Thursday, 7 February 2013 13:24 (eleven years ago) link

Vom Himmel Hoch! Kraftwerk play Autobahn at the Tate Modern

Some words written on the bus on the way home last night.

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 13:38 (eleven years ago) link

Nice, makes me look forward to the full length essay.
Also:
1) You waved with your money (!) Awesome (I didn't know the backstory)
2) You're going to all the shows!

willem, Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

2) We had something 'big' sorted out with Kraftwerk that fell through at the last minute, the tickets were a gesture of commiseration I think. I wanted to spread them round the Quietus writers but it's all done by photo ID... I'm disappointed by that but I'm not going to lose too much sleep over watching all of them myself!

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:23 (eleven years ago) link

Someone's gotta do it..
Care/allowed to elaborate a little on 'something 'big''?

willem, Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:36 (eleven years ago) link

Give me another week until the shows are over and if you're still interested I'll let you know.

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:39 (eleven years ago) link

worried they'll nix your tix ;-)?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:53 (eleven years ago) link

Ha ha ha, not really, just professional politeness. Something I've only started worrying about very late in life admittedly...

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:55 (eleven years ago) link

nice write up - reminds me of when they came to Milwaukee in '08, I wound up next to these kids who were like 15, had custom KW T-shirts ("BOING" "BOOM" and "TSCHAK"), going mental to every song, and I was like..these cats get it

frogbs, Thursday, 7 February 2013 14:56 (eleven years ago) link

I love shit like that. My GF knitted me an Autobahn cover V neck jumper. If I wear it out there's always at least three dudes who want to buy it off me. I wore it when I was interviewing Andy McCluskey and he just stared at it for the entire 30 minutes.

Doran, Thursday, 7 February 2013 15:08 (eleven years ago) link

When I saw them at Brixton in 1991 there were a few hardcore fans down the front wearing white lab coats.

my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Thursday, 7 February 2013 15:10 (eleven years ago) link

^^great anecdotes.

I'll get back to you in a week Doran!

Nice writes, Doran!!

jealous of the people seeing Radioactivity tonight. what a weird record, even for them.

Jamie_ATP, Thursday, 7 February 2013 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

if I could hear "Radioland", "Airwaves", and "Antenna" live...damn, someone record this!!

frogbs, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:01 (eleven years ago) link

So, did they blow into Recorders for the performance of "Morgenspaziergang" last night or WOT?

Mark G, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:14 (eleven years ago) link

Nah, no winds no piano, just the melody kinda repeated, bit of an afterthought really. I can imagine Ralf thinking, 'how am I going to render this hippie nonsense?'

MaresNest, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:20 (eleven years ago) link

Going again tonight and getting the butterflies thinking about it now, could get used to this, kinda envious of Doran's residency...!

MaresNest, Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:27 (eleven years ago) link

Great pics and feedback from the gig, folks! Top stuff.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Thursday, 7 February 2013 16:48 (eleven years ago) link

after seeing last night and how amazing it was, now have the rest of the week to get excited about Man Machine plus i'm seeing a performance of George Antheil's Ballet Mechanique beforehand at the RFH which is nice and thematically linked and its basically going to be the best day ever

ah fuck the BBC just called me middle aged: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21315793

Jamie_ATP, Thursday, 7 February 2013 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

gotta laugh a bit at the piece from Flur on the Quietus today...doesn't seem bitter at all!!

frogbs, Thursday, 7 February 2013 17:50 (eleven years ago) link

"Mostly middle-aged" tho. I am so jealous of all you people btw

youtube started throwing up tons of grade A live kraftwerk for me about three weeks ago, including captures of the Düsseldorf shows.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWsQgmq-fNs

lo-fi audience recording of January's Radio-Aktivität. the big disappointment is that News & Transistor aren't live at all, just them playing short excerpts straight off the record -- but Airwaves & Antenna are fun

the Flur article is hilarious

For Jill or anybody else. Just met a friend who got in tonight without an advance ticket, he pitched up at six and queued at the left hand entrance at the front, he said it was no trouble at all. So there *is* a system in place.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 7 February 2013 22:20 (eleven years ago) link

Lovely to meet Neil S of this parish at KW tonight. Spotted Andy McCluskey of OMD stood behind us and a guy with a knitted Man Machine jumper that put mine to shame...

Ima Pay Close Attention To Your Post (Doran), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

He's become a bit of a talking head for these shows, hasn't he? Not that it surprises me at all!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:48 (eleven years ago) link

The sound in there was amazing. So excited to hear bits coming from all around me. it was so clear. We were unfortunate enough to end up standing next to a couple, where the guy was giving a running commentary to his girlfriend all night, but I guess that's what happens to me at most London gigs.

Moon Fuxx (Jill), Thursday, 7 February 2013 23:50 (eleven years ago) link

that was quite good
