I disagree. It's not spot on, but it's an approximation of his voice from the 2000s. Certainly doesn't sound like his voice on the Christmas albums, yeah.

Kinda amusing in light of recent events that at 1:02 there's a sign that says GUN CONTROL NOW and at 1:04 "From Writer & Director David Mamet."

Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Tuesday, 5 February 2013 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

Eh, still sounds like 70% Pacino and, I dunno, less than 30% Spector.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

he attempted to do the gravelly thing, but granted it's not great

Great another movie about what was on the news two years ago.

i hope there's a scene in the movie where some court house reporter carelessly tosses his cigar out and it inadvertantly lands in phil spector's hair

He looks more like the MC5 dude..

I can only imagine him doing "ATTICA!!!..."

David Mamet might be crazier than Spector at this point. At least Spector likely knows that he shot her.

Wouldn't be the first film to doubt that Spector murdered Clarkson ...

Yikes. This sounds more and more like the Spector version of Zero Dark Thirty.

Bring on Cameron Crowe's in-development Phil Spector movie! Daddy wants the Wall of Sound depicted.

Cunga, Friday, 22 March 2013 05:37 (eleven years ago) link

just saw this. what a terrible disappointment.

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 03:10 (eleven years ago) link

i remember reading something a long time ago about how cameron crowe's spector movie was running into problems because they 'couldn't figure out how to end it.' this was pre-2003.

Mamet is insane, film at 11.

One ILM poster friend of mine has noted previously that Mamet has an uncommon talent for finding ways to justify women getting slapped around in his movies/plays.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 26 March 2013 13:39 (eleven years ago) link

"Mamet, the writer, has publicly stated that he feels Phil Spector is innocent and should not be in prison," says spokesman Ed Lozzi. "We fear that he will rewrite history and portray Lana Clarkson as responsible for her own death. That is not acceptable, and if he does so, there will be consequences from us."

What, are you going to shoot him then?

They're going to send him the 3LP box concept album by Godley & Creme.

Some things are worth killing for.

Nah, that's not true, but he does have a good half-dozen scripts with false rape accusations, and this story is a variation on that.

That said, I liked it. Lots of Pacino time.

Really? Two that come to mind off the top of my head:

The Verdict -- Charlotte Rampling gets "justifiably" slapped in a restaurant.

Oleana -- Bill Macy beats the crap out of the woman who falsely accuses him of rape.

Pretty sure there are others...
