"The prostitutes don't seem to mind it"!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 7 February 2004 21:53 (twenty years ago) link

two weeks pass...
The whole "bi-racial" doll thing was fantastic.

This show is way better than Seinfeld.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:01 (twenty years ago) link

First series DVD is now on my list of "Official Reccomendations for Everyone on Earth"

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:32 (twenty years ago) link

"We don't say 'mulatto' anymore."

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:34 (twenty years ago) link

also...
"If you want a blowjob at a reasonable rate, she's your girl!"

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 19:35 (twenty years ago) link

I have all three series on DVD and I think series 3 is the best, although I'm only halfway through watching it. "Club Soda & Salt" is fantastic.

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 20:25 (twenty years ago) link

I've never identified with any film/tv/literary character more than I do with Larry David. My whole life is now totally WWLDD?

"he's a survivor"

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 13:50 (twenty years ago) link

I pulled an LD last night at a bar, and was so proud of myself. This smelly guy at the bar tried to shake my hand, and I shook his arm instead.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago) link

god that last episode was so fucking good

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 17:30 (twenty years ago) link

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 17:49 (twenty years ago) link

gina gershon as a sexy hasid... uh, rowr.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago) link

"uh the first one"

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 19:10 (twenty years ago) link

This last episode was only meh (but still a 9.5/10 on the panTV scale).

I find that Curb Your Enthusiasm has somehow made me love L.A. even more! Adam, you should really move down here. We'll meet for lunch, drive around in a Prius, and yell at each other.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 21:28 (twenty years ago) link

My friend LeRoy is Larry David's personal chef. I keep hoping he shows up in an episode. But I don't have cable, so I'd miss it anyway.

Maria D., Tuesday, 9 March 2004 22:16 (twenty years ago) link

"uh the first one"

best line ever. one of the blessings of improv?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago) link

"does anyone have a sponge?"

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 00:02 (twenty years ago) link

I think I might actually buy an iPod if only to have the theme song play as I drive/walk around L.A.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 00:05 (twenty years ago) link

Yes! I am downloading that right now.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 00:13 (twenty years ago) link

There MUST be a Curb Your Enthusiasm celly ringtone!!! Looking now!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 13 March 2004 01:06 (twenty years ago) link

CLASSIC so classic.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 13 March 2004 01:17 (twenty years ago) link

I rewatched the pilot last night, having previously thought it inferior to the series. It isn't.

"I find that I always nod to black people."

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 13 March 2004 16:44 (twenty years ago) link

I think one of my favourite bits is in the third series where Larry and Cheryl are sitting out on their porch, and Larry says;

"You hear the birds?"
"Yeah, it's nice."
"You know, I sometimes wonder what it would be like without them, if the nosie wasn't there. (big pause) It's not so bad."

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:54 (twenty years ago) link

I like the episode when one of Larry's old friends comes for a visit and she brings him to one of her group meetings. The meeting was about incest.

The end was my favorite part.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 13 March 2004 17:57 (twenty years ago) link

FYI Larry David's real wife is profiled in American Elle (or Vogue) this month...

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Saturday, 13 March 2004 18:14 (twenty years ago) link

Larry's (tv) wife doesnt really love him, does she?

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Saturday, 13 March 2004 18:27 (twenty years ago) link

I think she kind of looks like a mouse at times.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 13 March 2004 18:30 (twenty years ago) link

i think Cheryl is hott

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Saturday, 13 March 2004 18:37 (twenty years ago) link

"My job is loving you, Larry"
(Said *very* deadpan)

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 13 March 2004 19:43 (twenty years ago) link

kind of a weak season ending, I thought. too much of the Producers to pad out the hour, a weak resolution to the anniversary present, and whatever happened to richard lewis? is he off the show? I didn't notice it until this episode but he wasn't around all season.

pluses: the tipping thing, though cliched, was still funny; "this is the floor, it's for standing"; the fellatio teacher; ann bancroft is still beautiful.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:34 (twenty years ago) link

I am in love with cheryl hines.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:36 (twenty years ago) link

I loved the Producers stuff. It was almost heart-warming. Also, it sheds a whole new light on Mel Brooks' optimism towards Larry for the entire season.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago) link

no way! the finale was PERFECT, totally mirroring the film "The Producers" sooooo funny. PS I wouldn't fuck a Republican with someone else's dick, either

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago) link

is that it OVER over? : /

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:47 (twenty years ago) link

it's the end of this season, I'm assuming there's another season, haven't heard one way or the other.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago) link

"I'd fuck her with a Bush mask on!"

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 12:39 (twenty years ago) link

"you're a CUNT!"

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 12:42 (twenty years ago) link

It's classic. My girlfriend, and many of my female friends, hate the show, though; I'm wondering if this is a common reaction, similar to that elicited by people like the Three Stooges and Randy Newman?

Larry David as Bialystock makes me laugh immoderately. The finale scene in which Larry doses himself with hot sauce killed me.

And I do think Cheryl Hines is quite attractive.

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 17:02 (twenty years ago) link

i like cheryl too. those lips.....i'd like to feel them around my Bialystock. And the hot sauce scene was hilarious, especially with the pieces of tissue on his head.

My wife loves CURB, hates the stooges.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 17:28 (twenty years ago) link

my wife hates the larry david character but likes the show.

i never "got" seinfeld at all, in fact, it gave me hives. but i "get" this show. i think it's brilliant, but really hard to watch sometimes. the lead character is so unrelentingly unappealing, it's an extraordinary bit of work.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 05:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Geoff in 'The Wire': "WHO DOES THAT?!!! THAT'S INSANE!!!!!!!!!!"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 06:59 (nineteen years ago) link

well that was about what I expected, appreciated the little meta twist there

did think it was odd that the plotline with Richard Lewis's girlfriend was never resolved, seemed possible that she actually was gonna murder him

frogbs, Monday, 8 April 2024 14:12 (one week ago) link

yeah that would’ve been great. also missed opportunity for an extra seinfeld finale tie-in to have their plane nearly crash (would’ve been accidentally topical too with the boeing stuff in the news)

leon watching seinfeld was the funniest

wonder what larry will do next, if anything. maybe another movie?

flopson, Monday, 8 April 2024 17:02 (one week ago) link

I thought when it was revealed that Leon was watching Seinfeld that he would get all the way up to the finale, come up with some really dumb idea of how they could've gotten out of it, only to have it work in the Curb universe. or it would backfire tremdendously.

frogbs, Monday, 8 April 2024 17:56 (one week ago) link

Yeah, that makes a ton of sense, as a way to have that Leon-watching-Seinfeld work pay off in a plot way. The plots this season were so sloppy in that way (someone mentioned the zipper, too), but hey, still fun.

paisley got boring (Eazy), Monday, 8 April 2024 18:48 (one week ago) link

this was one of the best seasons in years imo. definitely went out on a high note

flopson, Monday, 8 April 2024 18:50 (one week ago) link

Ah good to hear. Been waiting til it’s all done to watch the least season.

I Chet the Holmgren (Spottie), Monday, 8 April 2024 19:08 (one week ago) link

lmao he really does act the same way irl as he does on the show

After 12 seasons, many viewers lament the passing of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Larry David’s sour, pseudo bio-series. I’m not a fan, because Larry truly is the self-righteous, snobby, self-loathing, narcissistic ass he portrays. That opinion is informed by an outdoor afternoon…

— Geraldo Rivera (@GeraldoRivera) April 8, 2024

frogbs, Tuesday, 9 April 2024 03:28 (one week ago) link

If Alan Dershowitz did not exist Larry David would have had to invent him

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 9 April 2024 14:20 (one week ago) link

What's the timeline on that Geraldo story -- didn't Larry also have a feud going with Dershowitz?

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 9 April 2024 15:00 (one week ago) link

I’m so ready to leave this series in the dust but in retrospect of Lewis’s passing the last scene was a +
