Everything I've heard has been terrible. The first post-rickroll pop star?

Holy Suffering Gobi Desert Clit Nun (Matt DC), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

here's the inevitable collab with Tinchy, biting intro from Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere'

not sure about it (and never sure about Tinchy anyway) but do like '3 Little Words', 'In Step' and the remix of CSS

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 6 February 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago) link

shit, 'Little Lies' not 'Everywhere'

three weeks pass...

Just today saw his video for in step. It's brilliant (prolly nsfw tho), I've also had a hard time shaking this song off of my system. I wonder if he's a huge popstar somewhere across the globe.

the "hits" keep comin'

tuomasters at work (blueski), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Better Off isn't his strongest song, but the Tim Pope-directed video is dope as fuck.

In Step has burrowed its way deep into my brain.

four months pass...

similar problem to la roux with this album - songwriting actually not bad (likewise the production) but you have to get over his vocal style which i can just about do half the time - the other half he sounds too much like Justin Darkness.

admittedly still listening (ooh 'Vacant Heart' samples Mclaren's 'Madame Butterfly'...), but i like the idea of him more as songwriter and producer then singer/star on this evidence.

just heard some of this after maybe avoiding it because of "frankmusik"

sounds good but his voice just makes me think he has a funny-shaped mouth

conrad, Friday, 7 August 2009 09:54 (fourteen years ago) link

i should clarify this is definitely better than la roux lp

the m/ar/r/r/s sampling one could be a fun single

At some point soon, JLC might build on Confessions On A Dancefloor and produce an album for an act that doesn't completely suck shit but that day doesn't seem to be getting any closer.

Matt DC, Friday, 7 August 2009 10:49 (fourteen years ago) link

i didn't even realise he's credited with the whole thing and assumed Turner composed most of this (and chose the samples) as much of it doesn't seem characteristic of Price really (which is weird to write because of all the 80s refs and electro elements)

unban dictionary (blueski), Friday, 7 August 2009 10:53 (fourteen years ago) link

(Turner as in Frank)

unban dictionary (blueski), Friday, 7 August 2009 10:53 (fourteen years ago) link

wtf steve, frankmusik is not frank turner!

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Friday, 7 August 2009 11:33 (fourteen years ago) link

oh, but apparently his real name is vincent turner. CONFUSING.

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Friday, 7 August 2009 11:34 (fourteen years ago) link

Also confused as to where Justin Lee Collins fits into all this.

JimD, Friday, 7 August 2009 11:44 (fourteen years ago) link

Not too sure about the album as a whole, but In Step, Better Off As Two and (especially) 3 Little Words are absolutely brilliant. The album version of the latter in particular has Price all over it, to great effect - there's an 80s fairlight style stab he uses which is such a simple addition but it works brilliantly.

That one that samples "Golden Brown" oddly reminds me of Sulk-era Associates.

Stevie T, Friday, 7 August 2009 11:54 (fourteen years ago) link

done done is great, not sure if it's on the album tho

one year passes...

Ah, so that's the end of Frankmusik then.

You don't come back from a collaboration with Far East Movement any better for it.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 April 2011 20:07 (twelve years ago) link

Who's careers have Far East Movement killed?

The Sunspots In Your Eyes Are Actually Cataracts, Mr. Rudich (AWALL), Friday, 22 April 2011 21:16 (twelve years ago) link

No one that I know of. Frankmusik is a test case, and he fails.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 April 2011 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

(Dev didn't previously and still doesn't have any career to speak of, so she can't really be considered.)

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 April 2011 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

nine months pass...

Ha! Just saw he's killed the Frankmusik name, vacated his contract, and is now recording demos again as Vince Did It.

So...I was right?

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 18 February 2012 16:22 (twelve years ago) link

two years pass...

2 1/2 years later I just remembered him, went on Spotify and found he's released two albums since this thread was last active. I'm listening to By Nicole right now (from this year) and it's like the dictionary definition of "decent".
