I save my hate for better things. I cannot tell you what they are atm, but I know them when I see them.

I don't complain about popular fonts, I complain about shitty popular fonts.

I complain about a metric buttload of minutiae, including fonts

fonts r so boring what a weird thing for people to be interested in, like even in design theyre kinda boring, unless you make them which is kinda cool, also most people who are interested in them even a lot of designers dont really get what they're for

i wonder how hard it would be to pull an l. ron hubbard and create a phony, slightly absurd but uplifting meme just to see how wide it would spread

just imagining this post in ~comic sans~

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 January 2013 20:48 (eleven years ago) link

I think the issue with Papyrus or Comic Sans (which are commonly featured on crap that would be annoying even if it wasn't ugly, like invitations to new age spiritual record releases and managerial meetings with a happy-go-lucky spin!) is separate from like, serious font nerdery where you have four people gathered around a computer arguing for an hour about which font kerns better (or..whatever?) for the website, etc. Not disputing that the former often looks like the latter due to bohemians picking up some of the verbiage of graphic design and fancying themselves experts, but still.

lag∞n, Thursday, 24 January 2013 20:52 (eleven years ago) link

it would've been cool to have been a font-designer in like 1550 trying to make type that best expresses the harmony of the divine or whatever

weren't like original fonts made by crazy ppl in the forest or desert just tripping off the shadows cast by trees or whatever casts shadows in the desert or something
