I ate at Bellavitea last week and kinda wondered how Tipsy wound up liking it.

oops, just saw this. we liked it, straightforward as advertised. i just got the cacio e pepe, which was good and peppery, my wife had the roast chicken. we had good appetizers that i don't even remember. oh, i got the roast cauliflower thing. anyway, it was nice. good wine list too, at least from our limited sampling.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

somewhat randomly ate at mole on allen st. last night (it was next to the subway stop, was the main deciding factor). not bad. i liked the vegetarian tacos, guac was decent. margaritas were pretty good and $7 instead of $10 or whatever.

yessss

Been meaning to take a look at Hotel Delmano, too.

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:55 (fifteen years ago) link

hooray!

sleep was just telling me about delmano but was hazy about the cocktail details. seems worth a try, though!

gangsa paradise (tehresa), Sunday, 8 February 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

FYI re El Quinto Pino - http://thestrongbuzz.com/buzz/details.php?item_id=581

double bird strike (gabbneb), Sunday, 8 February 2009 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

delmano is nice for a before-dinner drink. later on I imagine it gets too packed

dmr, Sunday, 8 February 2009 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

they turn people away before it gets to crowded - i went there a bunch when a friend worked there - its cool tho those bartenders in vests places arent really my speed

WATERSLIDE MANSION (ice cr?m), Monday, 9 February 2009 00:37 (fifteen years ago) link

cool I will wear a vest if it's crowded so they'll think I work there and let me in.

Tina Fey's narrative bonsai (I DIED), Monday, 9 February 2009 00:46 (fifteen years ago) link

this is a good plan just wear a vest and if they try to stop u say o i work here hay would u like an award winning tequila fizz

ok arepas cafe was great. had the pabellon (trad. style arepa i guess) and the cazon (shark!!!11!1!) with a glass of chicha - ndsfnkdskfn delicious

ORGASM REMIX (donna rouge), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 23:38 (fifteen years ago) link

had the place to ourselves too! i should eat dinner at 4:30 more often

ORGASM REMIX (donna rouge), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 23:39 (fifteen years ago) link

There's another Arepas place in WB, less traditional than either Caracas or Arepas Cafe. Haven't been, it's on havemeyer. Went to Arepas Cafe on saturday and it was still great. He has this drink that is lemonade with brown sugar, pretty amazing. I had a basic pulled pork one and the BOMBA which is a Reina with cheese and avocado. Translation? A fucking overstuffed little chicken-salad sandwhich mixed with guac topped with a giant hunk of cheese and avocados. Raw avocodos make my mouth itch but it was worth it.

i just need a drink downtown, and i don't really go to manhattan for drinks so i need a tip. please

Surmounter, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

PS a glass of wine at the gramercy park hotel is $20

Surmounter, Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:54 (fifteen years ago) link

OK, the new ethiopian place in ft. greene (BATI) is good and not too pricy. i wouldn't go all the time or anything, but it's definitely a good addition.

haven't tried Deniz yet...

Surmounter, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:27 (fifteen years ago) link

had brunch at the general greene on sat, was very enjoyable, so we went back for dinner on friday--a little more hit or miss but still an overall pos experience

they do 'shared plates' which is cute but at some point i wanted to order red meat and ari doesnt eat it

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:31 (fifteen years ago) link

that's exactly what i've heard about them -- the dinner isn't as on as the brunch (which i did think was delish)

Surmounter, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:32 (fifteen years ago) link

really, really good apple pie + salty caramel ice cream desert--the waitress was all "apple pie made from apples from XXX orchard in ny, the crust is made with pork lard, from a pig that has only consumed those apples" and i was sort *rolls my eyes* but it was great

i feel weird judging restaurants in the first couple months tho, they usually take 6 mos or so to get up to full speed/deliciousness

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:32 (fifteen years ago) link

they're doing a really good restaurant week lunch for $23/a pair

Surmounter, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:33 (fifteen years ago) link

lol the pigs

Surmounter, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:33 (fifteen years ago) link

has anyone been to yolele or le grand dakar?

yur twit (tehresa), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:34 (fifteen years ago) link

isnt that ridic tho--would expect it from fancypants restaurant ltd. but this is a neighborhood joint you dont have to oversell the damn apple pie

xp

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:34 (fifteen years ago) link

haha... teh i think ryan's been to dakar, i'll check

Surmounter, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:35 (fifteen years ago) link

And of course the apple orchard was fertilized only with manure from those pigs...

Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:37 (fifteen years ago) link

ha, I was going to make a joke along those lines but was tired to make it work

f f murray abraham (G00blar), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:38 (fifteen years ago) link

that is so ridiculous

yur twit (tehresa), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:39 (fifteen years ago) link

do they offer an additional topping of applewood smoked bacon?

yur twit (tehresa), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:40 (fifteen years ago) link

multiple adjectives on menus are the best

mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Liking Reginella Pizza on Atlantic. Run by actual Italians from Italy, and they sort of meet the American-style slice halfway. Excellent crust. Generally really good topping slices*

*A few times they had this hot-dog and french fry pizza though. It looked scary. But then last time I was there they didn't have it, and then this dude came in like "Where's the hot dog pizza?" So I guess they know what sells.

Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:42 (fifteen years ago) link

went to curry-ya on sunday - same people and block as rairaiken - bangin def recommended

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 14:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I was at Enid's last night and I had the terrible realization "This is basically the Williamsburg TGI Fridays... and I like it."

Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Friday, 13 March 2009 18:49 (fifteen years ago) link

i think that's san loco, actually.

yur twit (tehresa), Friday, 13 March 2009 18:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Isn't San Loco more of an order-at-the-counter quick bite kind of place?

Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Friday, 13 March 2009 18:58 (fifteen years ago) link

That's a good deal!

Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Friday, 13 March 2009 19:01 (fifteen years ago) link

insane deal given that it includes wine! i went there a few months ago and had a great dinner, i think im going to go w/ ari on monday

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Friday, 13 March 2009 19:02 (fifteen years ago) link
