jaxon, met your friend Ben last night. We related on 1,000 topics, including gaining some insight on Rozzie Dame.
Anyway...
Anyone know anything about MarToRio? His song Share Of from the Red Bull Toronto mix is in the heart of this. I've found next to nothing so far.

ilx came up. he said his friend jason forwarded him a thread about new, weird r&b. dan was in the convo, pointed out jason = jaxon. ben started talking about his friend reese.
he said several terrible things about you. kinda endlessly.

She's not quite "out there", but I figured I'd mention Algebra Blessett in here... her album Purpose was one of my favorites from last year:
Gorgeous voice.

this is where we talk about PPP right? i'm enjoying this album more and more every time i spin it. i'm partial to the karma stewart songs, my favorite is 'on a cloud'; her voice is so soulful and retro (in a good way). does she have anything out there on her own that is worth checking out?
also looks like lastfm is autocorrecting them now, i remember rev complaining about that recently

For those curious about Muhsinah's day.break, and a few other things in this thread, this was put together for someone else, but might as well place it here too.

Aight, so on one listen I like this new Heavy record a lot. It's a lot less hamfisted then their debut. More neo-soulish, too. Lots of rhodes and sax all over the place. And a heap of Stevie-isms. They even call the last track "Wonderlove" and go for a glorious, all out, unabashed Minnie-circa-Perfect Angel tribute. Somewhere in the middle there's a broken-beat rendition of the Sesame Street theme. The two "bumpers" are a good vamp that a didn't need to hear for more than a minute, but otherwise I can't really find fault. I didn't expect much of this, but color me impressed.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 06:28 (fifteen years ago) link
Oh, wow. I think the Jazzanova remix of "Wonderlove" might be even better than the original.

Sa-Ra album on Ubiquity, release date of 6/9.
Obviously the hold up was in waiting for a 6/9 Tuesday.

Wasn't the Black Fuzz stuff recorded strictly for GOOD/Sony? There was that teaser EP ("Nasty You," "Big Fame," etc). I can't keep it straight.

From Ubiquity press release:
Their plan was to release their Black Fuzz album through Sony Urban and follow-up with the Ubiquity album. However, as with the best made plans (especially those involving major labels,) Black Fuzz has yet to be released.

Helping SRCP realize their potential on Nuclear Evolution is a crew of friends and co-conspirators that includes legends like soul chanteuse Erykah Badu, and saxophonist Gary Bartz with his quartet. The album also features up-and-coming talent like Debi Nova, Rozzie Daime, Noni Lamar, Erika Rose, Brook D’leau of J*Davey, Joseph Liemberg, Fenetta Lowe & Jimetta Rose.

so one of the dudes from Excepter has produced an album with a sextet of 12-14 year old girls from Brownsville rapping over VERY Excepter=like beats. my friend's label is putting out the vinyl. very strange and obviously a novelty, but kind of awesome, too. like Rye-Rye but more fucked-up and menacing, on first listen.

that's kindof a bit more balearic yacht rock than kinda out there, maybe kinda experimental, maybe kinda pretentious modern r&b and there are about a million threads about that.

So off one listen Triangle is basically awesome. Lots of really blunted loops with prettiness strewn about on top. Shock sample of the album: Antibalas' "Beaten Metal" on "Re: Outsource".
